Do you sell your arts and crafts on etsy.com?

I started an etsy shop a few years ago and did well towards the end of having my store open. It took a long time to get sales, and it was very frustrating trying to promote my work (and find time to make it!). I haven't updated my shop ever since my last sale closed about a year ago. Lately I've been thinking about re-opening. I worry that I'll face the same frustrations, though.

Hey I haven't heard about that site.. We have a craft store before but we stopped operating. We still have a lot of supplies and sales from few loyal customers but aren't enough.
etsy.com seems interesting. How did you learn about it? What do I need to join the site?

A friend of mine actually told me about it because she started selling a LOT of her things on there and did VERY well. She and I create similar pieces, so I thought I'd give it a shot. :-) The sign up process is very similar to ebay.com, but the listings fees are considerably lower.

I also sell on Etsy and there are many more shops open on the site than from 2 or 3 years ago. The Etsy name is starting to become known because of media exposure and there a re some months that 5,000+ new shops open on the site.
Promoting is just as time consuming as I guess it was a few years ago (I've been selling for 17 months) and the promotional forums on Etsy move very quickly. The one positive is that people that go to arts & craft fairs also know about Etsy and aren't afraid to buy online any more. Recently I've made several sales online from people who have purchased from me at shows.

This is very helpful! It's expensive to do shows here, plus I don't have enough items completed to justify going down that route. I will, however, give etsy another try now that I know that the promotional efforts have increases so dramatically about the site. That's such great news for little people like me trying to "get out there" and make it work! :-) Thank you for sharing your experiences with me!

i havent tried etsy yet but have heard about it. i wonder how much cheaper it is to list things than on ebay? i've sold on ebay but was charged for listings that didnt sell, so came out on the lost profit end.

I have done it last year also, but I rarely sold much. I don't think I'll be on there but promote my products through other ways that are even free or cheaper. Good luck!!
