Arranged Marriage: Is it still practiced?  

I think children are way too rebellious and don't have the same level of respect for their parents that they used to, so no, I don't think arranged marriages are a good idea anymore. Because basically they wouldn't work. There are too many people in favor of divorce and of not honoring their parents.

I am from India, there are some areas in the country where arranged marriages are still practiced, their parents stil think they can choose a better person for their children, though i completely disagree with this. Parents can just see if one has money, if the family is good but they can't judge the person. How good is he?? This right should be only given to chidren, afterall they have to spend their whole life not their parents. One should be allowed to marry the one they love.

There are two types of arranged marriages. They are the fully arranged and the semi arranged marriages.

In the first, the boy and girl never knew aeach other. Sometimes the parents did not know each other.

The xecond case is more common. The boy and girl know each other. The parents may or may not approve due to various reasons. The meeting arranged later on is just to fulfil cultural requirements.

As a parent I am in favour of the involvement of parents or other people before the actual marriage. Parents may not know best but the experiences that they had can help in choosing a better partner for their offspring. The experiences of my parents, relatives, children and myself strenghten my belief in this matter. Gor example someone may be blinded by love and it takes other people to notice the warning signs.

Arranged marriage and forced arranged marriage are two different things. I do not believe nor support forced marriages.
