A Crown, a Crown, anything for a Crown! email this discussion to a friend?

Right after Yoga, and breakfast, I was on Expressway 83 in South Texas, heading for Farm Road 1015, and the International Bridge, to Progreso Mexico. One of my teeth had developed a temperature sensitivity and needed to be Crowned. The car was soon parked in an All Day Parking-$2.00-. I paid my quarter and walked the International Bridge, over the Rio Grande River, on the border between the US and Mexico. The streets in town were already crowded, and the vendors were hawking their wares as I tried the door to the Dental Clinic. It was unlocked by the young Dentist who immediately invited me (in broken English,) back to his cubicle and into his dental chair. "How much for a Crown?" I asked. "$130.00," he said. "Too much!" I replied, getting up out of the chair, and making as if to go. We bartered, and he finally accepted my offer. He went right to work, freezing, drilling, and shaping my tooth to accept the Porcelain Crown. Then he made an impression to take to the lab down the street. After collecting the $80.00, he told me to be back in 2 hours. I wandered around the shops filled with pottery, religious ornaments and other tourist junk, putting in time, until I found a restaurant where I ordered a medium Margarita on the rocks. I ate a plate of chicken and drank another Margarita while listening to a couple of young boys playing an accordion and singing. Then it was time to return to the Dental Office. The Dentist shook his head as I went in. Either I was too early or the lab was late. I dozed in the waiting room, until he came in with the New Porcelain Crown carefully wrapped in plastic. It fit perfectly, and he mixed up the Crazy Glue to hold it in place. "Don't eat for an Hour" he said, as I thanked him and began to walk back to the Bridge.I was back home by 3 pm, with a sore mouth, a headache, and a New Crown.

Well, this is lovely Barehugs..you are so fortunate to be able to go right over the road to where it is still a custom to barter...wish that were possible up this way.

What a contrast to going to the dentist here LOLhappy

That's a good deal - They charge $500 for crowns here in Canada. I asked once why its so darn expensive and the dental technician said 'the equipment and the training' but infact its like anything else - there is collusion and a governing body sets the prices.

I paid over $4,000 here for four crowns, but they were all porcelain.
