Travel by Camel?

I was just sitting here watching "The Mummy" while I am posting here on Mylot. There was a scene where Brendan Fraser and his friends are riding through the desert on camels. People of the desert used to travel by camels in caravans to cross the deserts where they lived. It actually looked like a fairly comfortable way to travel. I have never actually done it, but I think I would like to. It looks a lot more comfortable than traveling by horse. I am not a big fan of sand, so I probably wouldn't like traveling through the desert, but I wouldn't mind taking a day-trip somewhere by camel. What do you think? Have you ever had the opportunity to ride a camel for travel? Would you like to do it?

Hi goldeneagle, I had ridden on a camel just walking one round along the small circle in one of the recreation park while visiting Peking in China few years back lol. I don’t have the experience to have a wonderful journey riding on camel through the vast desert yet. I believe it must be really attractive to have fun riding through the desert with a group of friends during the moon light night. I heard that the temperature of the desert is rather cold and the unique natural landscape there right by the time during the moonrise there is really fascinating. If I have a chance to try riding on camel in desert, surely I would like to experience this very unique type of journey which I haven’t had before. Anyway I’m still scared to come across the big pack of wolves while traveling in the endless vast desert. Happy posting and have a nice day.

I used to go on horse rides all the time through the forests up in Georgia. It was awesome to see nature this way. I would like to try traveling for a few days by camel...

I love horses. I used to ride all the time until I hurt my back. Now, I am afraid that all the bouncing around will aggravate my back trouble, so I don't ride anymore. I would love to do it again. I have always wanted to own my own ranch with cows and horses. I have wanted this every since I watched the tv show DALLAS with my mom when I was a kid. I have pretty much given up on this dream now, but I may get lucky some day...

Since I live in Egypt I have had quite a few opportunities to ride a camel. Especially whenever I visit the Pyramids. I was actually to scared because the camel is so high up, I thought I would fall off. Instead I choose horse. Big mistake! The horse was going to fast and I was clinging for dear life, I really thought I was going to die . The next time I just took the horse drawn carriage which goes a lot slower and is not to scary. If I get another chance I will try to camel next time
