Do you think maybe the medium we will read them in will change? Or will they be replaced completelly someday?

I would hope that books would never go out of style, but then again, I never thought people would stop buying newspapers, and they have. Technology changes, and people change with it. Today more people get their news online than buy newspapers, and the Kindle and Sony Reader have made downloading books as easy as reading news online. I think we are still at the beginning of this switch, and there will always be traditionalists, but one day I think books will be antiques just like dial phones or record players. For now, the book market seems to be strong. Although the economy has effected publishing just like every other industry (withe job cuts and changes in management), there doesn't seem to be any lessening of interest in buying books. The consolidation of bookstores happened already, so with the possible exception of Borders being on shaky ground, everything seems promising at the moment. Personally, I love books and can't imagine a world without them!

Just to clarify, I too prefer traditional books, but you can't stop the march of progress. Technology is here, and we are lucky enough to still have the joys of tearing out articles from newspapers and turning a page in real hardcover books. I hate to see it change, but I don't think anyone can stop it either.

Yes, I think the reading medium will continue to change and try to keep up with current technology. It already has a lot. I vacationed recently and noticed several people around the pool reading books that looked like sometype of hand held game. But personally, I don't think the book will ever completely go away. There are too many people, like myself, who enjoy the physical aspect of of holding and reading a book.

I love books. I couldn't imagine not having them. I love walking into a bookstore and being greeting by the inviting smell of books. I enjoy the physical motion of turning the page and when I get to the end of a chapter, forcing myself to read the last page all the way through instead of skipping to the last paragraph so I can get to the next chapter faster. What will we call a good book in the future if Kindles become the norm? We can't rightfully call them "page-turners," can we? I have purchased e-books before. A couple of them. They were short reference books, about 40 pages each, and I hated them. Once, on CSI, way back in the beginning, someone told Grissom that a case history he was reading was on the computer and he said, "Yes, but to read from the computer, one must lean in. When I read, I like to lean back."

I really dont know what will happen in the future, but i will tell you what i hope to happen. I hope that people keep reading books, in real paper, under a tree (dont tell me that today there are laptops, please!) with a chocolate or something like that.
