Poetry read at President Obama's innaguration

Does anyone understand or appreciate abstract poetry? I have never been much into poetry but when I listen to it, I kind of like it to rhyme. I like it to be sort of like a "rap" song in that there is a recognizable flow to it. The poem that was recited at the innaguration seemed to be a bunch of misplaced words strewn together. The presenter recited the poem so slowly and in such a depressed tone that I was totally turned off. Did anyone else feel this way? I thought it was supposed to be more of a celebration affair, and I did not see much happiness in this poem.

I understood what she was saying and all, but I don't know it just seemed out of place. Not to mention, they took someone up there who has stage fright.

I had not heard that the reciter of the poem had "stage fright". If so, that would explain a lot. I can understand, though. There were a heck of a lot of people at the inaguration and even more watching on TV and through computers. That may have been the cause of the tone of the poem seeming so somber. Thanks for the comments.

I am not sure if she has stage fright or not, it just seemed like she did, she was breathing awfully hard up there. But yes, I would have stage fright also I suppose if I had to look at that many people.

I thought it was very appropriate and give the celebration a more modern feel, along with all the cellos and what not. I thought the poet was very talented and her theme was appropriate for the gravity of the situation. But then I really enjoy abstract, more modern poetry and write it as well.

the poem might've had a bit of merit but who could tell, the reading of it was SOOOOO bad! I was listening with a poet and while I'm not one, I have learned how NOT to read one, and she made every mistake in the book
