Are you Allergic to your Cat?  

I have extremely bad allergies. I take medication which keeps them in check, but doesn't make them totally go away.

I did a years worth of shots and don't have much trouble anymore.

They told me I could take shots or treat the symptoms. And that I could take the shots and it might not do anything, so I have decided just to take the meds. Glad shots worked for you though.

most allergiests have a set dose they think is what everyone needs, mine used your reaction to gage you antigen level and then each dose was taylored just for you...

That sounds like a good allergist. Most doctors think the same thing works for everyone even though our genetics are totally different and are hormones are definitely not the same. One of the reasons we have such a hard time treating women is that all the studies for drugs used to be men only studys since women's hormones were thought to mess with the results. The result of that is that more women die of things we should be able to treat.

and that's why "women's problems" like Lupus and Fibro have low priority to the male researchers

ah, how sad. I would be very sad if I couldn't pet my kitties. Hopefully your asthma will get better soon and you can pet your kitties.

My father and sister are allergic which is why the kitties can't go visiting. Sorry you had to give your kitty up, glad you found her a good home.

I think I am getting used to my cats too. But I am sure the vacuuming I do and the air filter that I have helps.

Well, I hope we both get some helpful tips from this discussion. I keep my cats in the house cause I like their company and I am afraid they will get sick or hurt by being inside.

Thats sad. I am sorry. I would be medicated anyways for my seasonal and mold allergies so its not like adding the cat allergies affects me anymore than the others. Most of the allergy meds out there are non-drowsy now and over the counter. Zytec is the one I use, but I can certainly understand not having a pet because of the allergy situation. My parents had outdoor pets only because my father and sister are highly allergic to pet dander. I am only mildly allergic and its worth it to me to have them and take the medication. The benefit to me emotionally is worth taking the pills every day. Perhaps one day your situation will change and you can have a cat or perhaps an outdoor pet.
