I really don't understand why this keep happening to me!!! |
| |
| A few months ago, we had a package delivered to us through UPS. The package had our address on it, but it wans't addressed to us and it was from the correctional center (yeah, the jail!). When we got the package, I left it outside and called UPS to tell them to come get it and take it back. I had noticed that the original address was not ours, but that UPS had changed it. The original address does not exist so UPS tried to get the closest address to it, I guess which was ours??? So, they came and picked it up the next day. Yesterday, I pull into the driveway and guess what's up agianst our garage??? TWO more packages, from the correctional center! Addressed to the same person. I get UPS on the phone again and tell them to stop sending me these packages! They inform me that they delived them to the "correct" address - well, the address on the box, which they changed to MY address because the other address does not exist. I told the lady on the phone to #1 come get these packages and send them back and #2 STOP SENDING THEM TO ME!!! She informed me that there was not way to not send me the packages since the address does not exist that the person is trying to send it to and mine is the closest match they can find. Well, if the address does not exist, send it back! Don't send it to me! I'm sure that in some (or many??) instances, this is very helpful because we all make mistakes and can easily write the wrong address down. But if I'm requesting that they not change these particular packages to my address why can't they do this?? The UPS lady told me to contact the sender (yeah, the jail) and tell them to fix their records. About an hour late, I get the call from the local UPS dispatcher to verify that they need to come pick up the package. The woman on the phone remembered that this happened before and said she can make a note on my address to hopefully stop this from happening. This woman was VERY helpful. I'm still calling the jail today and telling them to stop sending me stuff. | | | | | |

| | It does have a name of who it's from, and I've always assumed it's an inmate. I have a friend in the correctional system and I called him this morning. He gave me the whole run-down on what happens and suggested if I get another package to just call the police right away. Oh, so much drama!!! | | | |

| | Well, this morning when I left for work, one of the boxes had been knocked over and the one side was busted up a bit. I didn't think twice about it and just went to work. After taking to someone I know who works in the jails he said that next time I get a package, call the police right away. | | | |

| | This sounds like some sort of scam or criminal activity. I'd definitely contact the jail. | | | | | | |

| | Actually, it most likely is. I talked to someone I know who works in the correctional system and this is a way of getting things in and out of the jail. He also told me not to get too involved, just send it back or call the police (which I'll do the next time). There are "crooked" correctional officers and calling the jail may be a big mistake... | | | |

| | Wow! I hadn't thought about the correctional officers being in on it somehow! The cops sound like your best choice then. | | | |

| | I know! But this guy said that there are crooked people working in there and they help the inmates sometimes. Unbelievable! | | | |

| | reiny, have you tried telling them to send them back and to make a file with your complaints in it so maybe they won't deliver to you. It seems that sending them back to the person that sent it out then they would realize they had the wrong address. They do put on them that the package was refused. | | | | | | |

| | This may very well be more than just a misposted package. I talked to a friend in the correctional system and he filled me in on what is most likely (but not definitely) happening. I did tell UPS to never ship me anything from the jail again but the first lady said they can't put that kind of note on my file, the second lady said she'd mark my address so that it doesn't happen again. My friend told me to call the police the next time it happens. | | | |

| | Hi reiny! That is pretty strange! I guess that person in the jail can't remember where the person lives that they want to send whatever it is they are sending! Weren't you just a little curious? I guess being that it was coming from a jail I guess curious could mean danger! I didn't know that people in jail were able to send so many packages! They usually don't have that kind of money or things to send! I would have done the same thing I guess. Getting in tough with the jail would be the surest way to put a definite stop to it! | | | | | | |

| | I wonder what kind of stuff you are getting from the jail. Do you have a secret admirer you do not know about in the jail. The boxes may contain money you may be rich. heehee Now when you call the jail I do not even know who you call, the mail room, the person who mailed the package, the dispatcher? good luck lets hope now that UPS does not send ALL the packages back and refuse to deliver you packages. | | | | | | |

| | That's very strange that UPS would change an address on a package to one that's closest to the address since the address doesn't exist. It seems that they would return it to the sender as address unknown. So did you call the jail? Did you find out who from the jail was sending the packages? I think I would be leery about packages being on my front door step from a jail. | | | | | | |

| | I called somone I know who works in the correctional system. He said I should just call the police if it happens again. This is how they smuggle things into/out of the prisons. | | | |
