| |  are you sure of the stats? although i think mostly people commit crimes where the they have some relationships to their victims.i mean, who would harm a stranger who have totally no connection with you unless you are a psycho who likes butchering people up.

| |  I can agree with the data for murders (i.e. 98% murders are by close family members or Friends of Victims), but for rapes, I think the percentage will be quite smaller. Anyways, lets not ponder about the data..
I think the cause for this is that it is the family or friends, with whom, an individual spends most of his time. And the more we come close to a person or spend time with, the more are the chances for disputes/disagreeing. This is probably why people often make their near and dear ones their foes and hence, commit such crimes against them.
