What Is One Of Your Favorite Comfort Foods When You Are..... |
|
.......Sick? Feeling like do-do ca-ca poo-poo? For about a week now I just haven't been feeling too keen...uh, to put it mildly. I've been having one of my bouts of bronchitis again...not too severe but still making me feel lousy. My energy level has been zip, can't think, having serious brain fog. As soon as I started feeling lousy and getting that twinge of bronchitis I started taking a bit more of that herb Echinacea, more Vit-C and dosing myself with garlic pills since garlic is a natural antibiotic. I still haven't gone to my docs since I have to practically be at death's door before going to one....LOL....also have that same attitude my great-grandmother had who was a nurse and thought all docs as idiots, never took anything stronger than aspirin in her life, was into natural remedies and lived to be 98
But I have noticed something when I'm sick....now yes, I'm a good cook, love cooking and can make a lot of great homemade soups...and do while I'm sick...but what do I long for and eat a lot of while sick? My favorite comfort food..what is it you ask? Good old Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup---I could eat this by the gallon ...Yes, it's a "processed" canned food, loaded with salt, salt, salt, and yes it has MSG (mono sodium glutamate)..but I love it...this is definitely my comfort food when I'm sick...perhaps memories of my childhood as that's what I would have when I was sick as a kid.
So when you're sick...what is YOUR comfort food? Even if it's something that may not exactly be the healthiest for you like a processed food rather than a homemade one. Do you turn to good old Campbell's soup too? Doesn't have to be the Chicken Noodle kind either, but do you?
Just what is it about that Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup anyway? Mmmm...mmm...good...mmmm..mmmm...good

When I'm sick just about any soup will do, with lots of crackers. It's just the nice warm feel of it going down that helps, lol! I've already put carrots in my Campball's Chicken Noodle, even Spinach. Yeh, I'm weird, haha.

35. samma00 (319) | 11 months ago | When I am sick my favorite thing to it is tomato rice soup. It's my favorite. And sometimes I will melt cheese in it. Sometimes it makes my stomach hurt even more, but it's worth it cause its so gooood. haha. Hopefully you feel better. I know how it feels, I got chronic bronchitis about 3 or 4 years ago, now every year I get it. it's not fun. and is very painful.

36. savak03 (2179) | 11 months ago | Oh yeah, definitely chicken noodle soup from campbells. Is there anything better when you have the crud? I really think your grandmother had it right. We are too quick to fill our bodies with chemicals to make us all better and all it really does is unbalance something else while it fixes one thing.
"...that's what Campbell's soup is, mmmm mmmm good."

38. OreoCookie3 (18659) | 11 months ago | When I am sick I like to have chicken dumpling soup.. it's just boiled chicken cut up into bite-sized pieces with the broth and then I make a dough with bisquick and spoon in tiny bits of dough off a spoon and they swell up. Sometimes I make them with plain all purpose flour and have the dumplings that don't raise up.
I also like honey when I am sick. If I am having an asthma attack I actually respond better to honey than I do an inhaler. The honey is a natural anti-inflammatory.

39. DonnaLawson (2801) | 11 months ago | Well, first off, you do need to go to the doctor, but this advice is coming from someone just like your great-grandma, I never go for myself either.. So with that said, take mega doses of the good old Campbell's soup. The chicken noodle is the best along with plenty of crackers, the soup will make you feel better and the crackers will give you a full feeling.. I love the Chicken noodle soup, I really don't care what is in it, it is my favorite and I eat it as a snack sometime in the evenings when I am still hungry.. You are right.. Take care and get well soon.. Mmmm...mmm...good...mmmm..mmmm...good
