Can you live in isolation, or relative isolation, such as on an island or in a city on an island? Ketchikan is one of those cities -- where the only way in or out is by boat or air. How would you feel about living where you couldn't get in or out of town, except by a big expense or only when weather allows?

I like to be around people, so if the island is populated, I am okay, if not, I'm not!

Well looking at Ketchikan as the example, it's on an island, but the island is populated. There is at least 10,000 people living there year around, and when the cruise ships dock, some days there is upwards of 30,000 folks roaming around the city. But the only way out is by air or by sea. You can't drive out. Could you handle it?

You know, many folks who live on islands do get out to mainlands usually several times per year. At least I know from experience that folks take flights out or the ferry for assorted conferences, major shopping trips, and vacations. So even when one is isolated, there are still plenty of ways to get where the masses are.
