think? If you dont buy paper towels , what will use in place of them? I have seen them say using coffee filters for draining greasy foods like bacon. Can you get used to not buying or using paper towels?

Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, I use paper towels, like baby wipes, for almost everything. I use paper towels especially for removing all that fat from bacon. Paper towels have their advantages...and if they were to leave the marketplace, well then...that person needs to be flogged! LOL

I can't get by without using paper towels but I use the Viva brand, this is what my mother used, and I can rinse them out and reuse them as they are strong enough to do this, they are almost cloth-like.. I do quite a bit of cleaning with just a few towels and it not only makes them last longer, I save a bit of money and save on my laundry by not having a bunch of estra cleaning towels to wash.. I do use a cleaning rag for things that I can and get by with it but for draining and a few other certain jobs, I have to have my towels.. I am thrifty with them, I don't just use a handful and then throw them away, I do use the good ones and make them last, in other words, I get my moneys worth..

I am not sure just how frugal that would be is I just have to buy more on any type of product. I have been using my "ShamWows" and they do save a lot of paper towels.

what do they say to use instead o paper towels? I would probably just cut up some old raggy clothes to use for towels and that way they can be washed and reused. now days we have to be thrifty.

You are actualy right... it would be very easy for us to do this. Most everyone has something that they cut up and use for the rags. I am going to do this....and be more conservative. Appreciate the response.

I like my paper towels....I won't go without buying them. I don't know what you would use except for dish cloths etc to clean up messes..it's just so much easier to do it with a paper towel! LOL.....

When I run out of paper towels, I will often use dish clothes. Then, of course they need to go in the laundry. NOW I am using water, electricity and laundry detergent. Is that cheaper? Is it better for the environment? I'm not sure. The same can be said for cloth versus disposable diapers. Even the environmentalists can't agree on that one.

True. But you know, my mom always had a rag bag and I've just never gotten into that. I wonder what they did before paper towels?

Someone else here mentioned rags. You know..... I think that would be a great solution. Old clothes will be thrown away anyway. Make rags from them and then just toss instead of washing! Hmmmm......... I'll think about it!

I still occasionally buy paper towels. However, I have a bag of rags in the laundry room that I use for most spills. I think that I like the microfiber rags better than any of them. They seem to soak up more and I think that they last longer than just a regular rag. What do you think?

I just like saving. I have the rags too and I agree with you. I just cannot see wasting so much paper, and it dosent seem to help you go green. Appreciate the response and have fun mylotting.

I do not use paper towels for napkins nor do I use paper napkins unless I have company. I use cloth dish towels for napkins, I do not wash them after each use I may use them a few times before we put them in the wash. Now for draining bacon on or stuff like that I would miss paper towels. I guess I would have to get use to it and maybe use an old cloth towel or just a think paper plate which is just as costly to the environment.

I haven't bought paper towels or paper plates in over 20 years. And you know what? Once upon a time, long ago, no one had them before they were invented. As for draining grease, you can use paper bags. Coffee filters also work well. You can also bake your bacon on a rack and the grease will drip off.

I have paper towels, but I only use them for some activities. I drain greasy foods with them and to dry some food before using them, but don`t use them to clean up. I use cloth towels for that.

I am frugal, but I love my paper towels. I have tried the micro fiber and other cloths but just don't like them as I do my paper towels. But I don't buy Bounty or the other expensive brands. I use the dollar store brand and the plain white ones and pay just $1.25 for 3 rolls. Two of these packages last me all month. So, if spending $2.50 a month means I've gone from frugal to wild spender, than so be it, but I have to have my paper towel :)

I think I could manage without paper towels. For something like drying my hands after washing, I'd have one dish towel. Then for cleaning up messes, I'd have a couple more. I don't eat bacon, or anything so greasy that I'd need to drain it, but if I did, I would use napkins (or does that article suggest that we not buy paper napkin in favor of cloth ).
