"Run rabbit run or the dog will get you", remember a charater on Gunsmoke singing that. Maybe it was Festus. I remeber the famous Dennis Weaver who was on it for some time, perhaps replacing Festus, whose character had the stiff leg and went aroung yelling "Mr. Dillion, Mr. Dillion" all the time. I can't remember if there were two characters or if Festus was played by two different actors at different times. Of course Dennis Weaver went on to have shows of his own. So yes Gunsmoke was one of my favorites. I also liked Rawhide wich was where Clint Eastwood got his start.

stealthy,If I remember correctly Dennis Weaver was on first, then Ken Curtis came.My grandfather looked like Festus.I named my oldest son Matthew, from th bible and from Marshall Dillon. My second son I named Cameron from the actor Cameron Mitchell that was Uncle Buck in "High Chapparel".My favorite show when I was pregnant with my daughter was "Dr Quinn:Medicine Woman" and I named my daughter Michaela. You think I like westerns or what.
DonnaLawson,Thank you for putting up the cast list thru their long time on the air.

Donna, thinks for the cast list. I guess I was not as clear as I had hoped to be in expressing my lack of memory about the characters and I certainly did not intend to make you feel stupid. It took me a few minutes to remember Dennis Weaver's name and I obviously couldn't remember his characters name. I just remembered he was on it and I thought he was the one with the limp because of a stiff leg and that maybe he was the saying "Mr. Dillion" in that way and singing the little song but that may have been Festus.

I love Westerns too. Of course I watched Gunsmoke and Bonanza, but the was a long time ago. I always like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood movies too. I never missed an episode of Dr. Quinn Medicine Women, I wish that show was still on. I think a good Western weekly show would be popular.

I wish Dr Quinn was still on too.The man that played Sully was in one of the soap opera's I used to watch.I really like Jane Seymour, she is beautiful and a good actress.I was pregnant with my daughter while that was my favorite show and I named my daughter Michaela. At the same time there were a lot of girls born at that hospital named Michaela too.

I am a bit older then you. I loved Wild Bill Hickock, the Roy Rogers Show, and later on it was Rawhide, the old Gunsmoke, the one with Chester in it. Did not like the new colored Gunsmoke as much. I liked the idea that the old shows had the humorous funny sidekick. The new ones were too serious. I never had a favorite Western. I am more into detective shows like Dragnet and Peter Gunn.

I remember Rawhide and the older Gunsmoke shows. But,I liked the newer ones because Festus looked like my grandpa.I saw many Roy Rogers movies. My mom loves Roy Rogers. We had many Roy Rogers restaurants around here and now they only have a few.
I love those restaurants .One time Roy Rogers came as a promotional visit to a restaurant.

I used to like Gunsmoke. That was a prety good show. I used to like Marshall Matt Dillon and all the characters from Gunsmoke. I used to like Festus and Doc. I never really got into watching those other shows too much. The only time I watched Bonanza was when I was visiting my grandparents house.

When they came up with the idea for "Gunsmoke", the actor they originally wanted to play Matt Dillon was John Wayne. He'd didn't feel ready to give up movies so he declined but he also said he knew a young actor who would be great in the role. James Arness.

Matt Dillon and Chester wasn't it?? I loved the Westerns when I was younger also, my husband still does and he loves any of them with Willie Nelson, (Barbarosa??) and the ones with Clint Eastwood in them.. We watched Bonanza a lot also, it was really good but since I have gotten older my tastes have changed and I don't care much for the westerns anymore.. I don't care that much for TV anymore nowadays, except for the Cooking Channel.. I love that one..

Gunsmoke is without question the greatest TV western ever. You can't beat Matt Dillon, Doc, Chester, Miss Kitty and Festus. Solid thoughtful stories.
