Would be interesting to know other people thoughts of this union. I live in EU country and after joining to EU here have been many improvements. But I won't deny that many things were thrown in dump - our own identity of being only master of the situation.

I could support the European Union if it was a more liberal setup - if it confined itself to being a free trade area and defensive alliance. Unfortunately it's become way too centralised and interventionist, passing legislation on things that it shouldn't be involved in. Just to take one example, it will soon be illegal for most workers to work more than a certain number of hours each week, so it's going to be hard for people who rely on second jobs or lots of overtime to make ends meet.

I think so, yes. It's the Working Time Directive, which was introduced in the 90s and prevents workers in most EU countries from working more than 48 hours a week. At the time, the UK negotiated an exemption, which allows British workers to sign an opt-out form so we can work longer if we want, but that's being abolished soon. Just what we need in a recession, more rules and regulations!

What I see distirbing in the E.U. is the loss of the national soveirgnty of the naitons involved. Tghis is somehting that many here would find appaling and would in all likely hood spark a violent uprising. There has been rumor over the years of a NAU, a north american union and it has been almost unanimously opposed, by both Canadian and U.S. citizens. Our constitution would not allow for such a thing anyways.
