How Do You Usually Celebrate Your Birthday? |
|
Those who have read the last two discussions I started will know that today, January 30th, 2009, was my 27th birthday. My husband and I had a great time!
First we went to Stone Road Mall, where he bought me a caramel apple, and a chocolate covered strawberry.
Then we went to The Second Cup, where we had a mocha latte, and I ate my strawberry. I am saving the apple for tomorrow, as I knew I'd be stuffed after a big dinner tonight.
From The Second Cup we went to The Greek Garden, and stuffed ourselves.
We shared a plate of dips (there was a hummus dip, and a whipped red caviar dip) with some bred, and a shrimp dish with marinary sauce and fetta cheese.
For our main courses we each chose something different.
I had the lamb souvlaki with a greek salad, and he has the Mousaka with Greek salad. Both plates came with potatoes and rice.
For dessert we had baklava, and I ordered Greek coffee. My baklava came with a candle in it.;)
He also introduced me to the wonderful world of Ouzo. That stuff is great! For those who have never had ouzo, it's an anise liqueur that'll knock you flat after a few shots. My husband says they call it Ouzo because you "Ooozzzzzzzeee-o" right out the door if you've had too much. LOL
My Grandfather died in 2007 a few months after I turned 25, and when I turned 26 i was in Arizona. This being my first birthday back home in Canada since he died was a little sad, but my husband cheered me up. Morfar (Danish for Mom's Dad) would have appreciated the fact that we went to the candy store, for one. Standing in that store reminded me of my 16th birthday when Eatons went under (1998) and everything was 96% off. Morfar bought out the entire chocolate section, and split it with me!;)

6. RockStarHobbo (492) | 11 months ago | I usually celebrate my birthday with my family and friends. Normally, my friends would throw me some kinda surpirse and perhaps buy me a present or so. Next, back at home, my parents would probaly just buy me a cake and we will celebrate together as a family, sounds simple, but i just love the feeling of it.

7. lloydbelleza (490) | 11 months ago | Well, I am grateful you had a great birthday.
I had my birthday last 25th of January. I usually celebrate my birthday with my family at home and with friends in school.
Last birthday, my neighbors serenaded me with Church and Birthday songs early dawn. It was a very wonderful morning and it was very unusual. My neighbors and relatives said their wished for me. I felt so special that day.
My family and relatives went to church for it was Sunday.
At night, we had a dinner with the people who remembered my birthday.

8. book1962 (14685) | 11 months ago | hey danish, that was a lovely way to celebrate your birthday. And I think these precious memories of your Morfar will also help you cope with the fact he is no more. Its same with my "Mormor" as you would say. She died in 1987 when I was 25 years old and I still miss her a lot. I love to share all these memories of her today as I am a little older and find them very comforting.
You asked how I celebrate my birthday, I am not the person to celebrate it a lot and in fact I wish it was a work day this year so I could escape to work. lol.

9. GardenGerty (20428) | 11 months ago | Sometimes I celebrate, sometimes I do not. I cannot remember how I celebrated last.It sounds as if you had a wonderful day, though. Lots of little celebrations. I have not had opportunity to try Greek foods, but I bet I would like them. I do like Hummus, and have made my own in the past. I know those memories of Morfar are bitter sweet. Hope your day was all you wanted it to be.
