Well, I made a crossword puzzle once that I was very enthusiastic about. I sent it off to a newspaper, eagerly anticipating seeing my crossword in the newspaper. It didn't happen like that though... the editor rejected it, saying it was too 'straightforward'. I never made another crossword puzzle after that, although I still enjoy working them. On the other hand, making crossword puzzles was not a passionate dream, it was just a pretty expensive whim, considering the cost of the software and the days I spent creating the puzzle.
So I would have to say that I lose interest in whims if I don't succeed immediately, but passionate dreams I follow forever, even if I have to change the mode that I am pursuing it in, and even if they are just sitting on the back burner simmering, so to speak.
