PSP is now a phone too?  |

|  The PSP 3000 has in inbuilt microphone that allows the console to be used as a phone through the Skype service that Sony added earlier last year.
The console, featuring high resolution LCD seeks to catch up with its rivals in the portable game console arena.
Sony also announced last year that it is planning to add more upgrades to the PSP console. A GPS receiver or a video service to make the PSP a truly portable entertainment system that can easily fit into your pocket.
But given the recent slowdown in the economy, I wonder if Sony is still going ahead with its plans to add upgrades modules to the PSP console.

Have you used its wi-fi capabilities to make calls via Skype?

| |  lol =D It seems that technology is getting more and more advanced that they are trying to squeeze everything into one.. lol =D That idea sounds good, but it might not work.. Imagine using skype to talk, means one has got to sign up for mobile internet?? Following which, using a headphone to talk, just like those telephone operators?? lol =D That just seem to be too ridiculous.. haha =D
ON top of that, what's gonna happen to the memory of the whole console?? The speed and most importantly, price?? lol =D

| |  If I remembered correctly, from firmware v5.00 onwards, Skype is on the PSP menu. PSP 3000 brings it to a greater height by allowing transmitting voice data. I have a PSP 2006 but I did not have time to try Skype, as playing the games and listening to music on it already took up much time. I strongly suspect that there's more goodies coming up for PSP, such as improvements to the GPS, web browser, character input, wireless (perhaps using Gigabit wireless?) etc. Sony has gone far enough investing into PSP, and with increasing game softwares from manufacturers, I believe Sony with go ahead to improve the PSP.

| | I use the wifi on PSP a great deal to surf the PSP website (in Japanese though) for cool new wallpapers, themes from the games, and also sometimes to buy games from the online PSP store. I'm a RPG lover and it's exciting to be able to play old RPGs designed for PS1 (those in late 90s) on PSP! I think in a modified PSP you won't be able to do this, but a modified PSP is good in other ways. | | | |

| |  Wow, I really want the psp so badly. I've been researching all the features and found out how great the psp was. I have a nintendo ds though and it keeps me happy, but when comparing it to what the psp has, it gets dominated. I also love the games and want to get Crisis Core and Dissidia for it. The psp 3000 series(psp bright) now has a built in microphone as we all all know and a higher contrast LCD screen, with anti-glare. Skype is so cool also, I want to try that out sometime and use that often. I just hope I get the psp soon so I can use all these great features that you currently have access to.

All I got is the 2006. And that is enough to keep me busy! Till now, I still have not got around to fully explore all the features in the console!
