For a Male Senior Citizen or For a 40-Something Female?

I was in a crowded rail transit today. I was standing beside a male senior citizen (he looks like 75 above) and a 40-something female. I can't tell if any of them have health condition but I know that they are not together. In one of the stations, a passenger seated in front of the male senior citizen stood up to get out of the train. As the senior citizen gave way for the alighting passenger to pass, the 40-something female took the opportunity to occupy the vacated seat. I feel pity for the older male but was it alright for the younger female to took the seat since she is a female?

hi there I think that was very rude of her. Even though I'm in my 50's, I always give way to those that are elder than me. That goes the same for standing in a long line up, I always let the elder person go ahead of me. It not only courteous, but also a sign of respect. ~proudnana~

Yes, you are right. And looks like respect and courtesy are words seldom used nowadays.

No I mean really id always ask anyone stood waiting regardless of age etc wether they want a vacant seat and allow them to have it. I sometimes wish others would give the same courtesy to me because while i look just healthy at 24 standing for long periods of time is extremely painful for me and id snap at the chance to sit down but people look at me think im young no obvious problems so I can stand hence i always ask others first.

That's very considerate of you. I saw some people of your age who don't care about such basic courtesy when they are in public places. I hope others will learn from you.
