Chicken soup is good for you. I have no idea how it works but I think that it coats the inside of your throat and it has the right amount of ingredients that work to make you better. Doctors say that it does not work, that it is all in your head, but that is not true. Another good choice is hot lemon and honey with cayenne pepper. Both of these clear your throat and take away that scratchy feeling and they also open up your sinuses. I love minestrone soup the best, part of it is chicken stock so I guess that would help in a cold. Glad you're feeling better.

Hey bombshell. Even I am not sick my mother likes to get me some chicken soup. The soup is more nutritious than the chicken so if you are feeling tired and sort of lack of rest, the chicken soup can really make you feel alive and full of energy. But when it comes to the time of sickness, I am not feeling like anything except some porridge without any other ingrediants or dishes to match. I just feel hungry but things like chicken soup can make me puke. I am sorry.

I also agree that soups are best for fever and illness. Well we used to have coffee mixed with karipatti, tulasi, ginger, and other herbal things while having cold. I think it is one of the best thing for cold. Also, taking fruits are good to increase the resistance in a person against various diseases.

I believe that food has the power to heal. When I am sick I lose my appetite and only take chicken broth to give me energy and to allow the medication to work. I am not surprise that the chicken soup you consumed make you feel better.

Chicken soup always does make me feel a little bit better. Sometimes the person taking care of me can help haha. I think it is the chicken broth that helps with the sore throat and stuff.

Soups are very healthy and dont make fat too unless you add a lot of fat and they are very tasty and chicken soup is used for many diseases as home made remedy. Good thing your husband gave you chicken soup and you felt better. I have chicken soup even if i am not sick not for medicinal value but i like its taste too.

Yep, chicken soup has been around for ages and it can help to make you feel better. There was a medical report out not long ago that does attest to the fact that chicken soup has certain things in it that is very good for those that are feeling under the weather. What it is exactly I'm not real sure. But maybe it is a psychological feeling that we get which takes us back to the comfort we felt when we lived at home with our mothers.......... Happy mylot!
