the day the music died

I am familiar with the death of the three best musicians of their time. Buddy Holly was going to have a baby, the Big Bopper had a small son, and Ritchie Valens was just 17 years old. Valens was also terrified of flying because when he was younger his best friend had a plane crash into him and he died, but he gave in and got on a plane for this tour... I wish I could go back in time and tell them to not take that flight that night, it is really so sad! The man that did not win the coin toss to fly back on the plane had the best luck ever, I am sure he felt a lot of mixed emotions when he heard the news.

I don't remember this...I was a toddler..

but it certainly had an effect on the music world.

I often wonder how big he could have gotten!

Yes, I do remember. I was about nine years old and I was a little Buddy Holly freak. I used to come home from school and sneak up to my parent's bedroom and turn on their little TV real low to listen to American Bandstand. I wasn't allowed to watch TV after school so I couldn't just go in and use the one in the living room. I always got caught when a Buddy Holly song came on and I turned up the volume. I read about the crash in my dad's newspaper that night and I couldn't even eat dinner.

To This day, Buddy Holly is one of my all time favorite rockers. My tastes have changed for just about everything else but not for his incredible music.

I actually only know about this plane crash from the movies. I hadn't been born yet. Oh! I also remember asking my mom about that song American Pie which references "the day the music died".
I do know the Big Bopper song Chantilly Lace. I love it!
And Ritchie Valens from La Bamba.
I don't think I know if I know any Buddy Holly songs. You know what I mean? I might know the song but not know it is by him. He was the one with the black rimmed glasses, right?

I wasn't alive either but I remember it. I love richie valens and wished he could have went further in his dream! I have his movie la bamba and it makes me sad everytime I watch it

I was just a little girl when the plane crashed that had Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens on it. It was a big deal in my house because I had older sisters that listened to and danced around the house to their music. And the Big Bopper was pretty popular also. They did make some great music. My husband and I went to the musical "Buddy" many years ago and it was fantastic!
