I bought a used car and the dash board light is out. The car I bought is a early 90s Oldsmobile. Some of the lights come on but the instrument panel is dark. What could be causing this? We checked the fuses and they seem to be OK.

My first guess is a fuse but since you checked it I would check to see if there is a light control. I was using my mother's truck last week and the lights weren't working so I started fiddling with things and found a light adjuster to change the brightness.

Yes we checked the light control to still nothing. I am going to see about checking the bulbs and wires.

It culd be a bulb, a loose wire, or a fuse. I have had vehicles in which I thought the fuses were fine, but they really weren't. Since that it the easiest part to change, I would go ahead and change them anyway, even though thet appear to be fine. If that doesn't do it, I would go onto the bulb and wires. I figure that they will both be a bit difficult to get to, so it would probably be best to check both at the same time. If I am thinking right, you ill have to take the dashboard cover off to get to them both.

I think I will re check the fuses. If all else fails I may have to bring it to the shop.
