Sound of silence'..;)  

Universal sound is kown as silence of sound. You can here to that sound when you are not able to hear the other sounds. Universal sound is heard within you. Confused??? because we are normal people. The sages and saints can hear the sound of silence.

I think the phrase could be interpreted in a few different ways. For me, the sound of silence is when things are so quiet that I can almost HEAR myself think. Since you have posted in the music category, I assume you are thinking of the Simon and Garfunkel song, which was written after John F Kennedy was assassinated. Have you ever been in a situation where everything seems to happen so quickly that you can see what is going on around you but don't remembering hearing anything? Perhaps that is what was meant.

The sound of silence...I think there is a specific sound that goes with being in silence. It allows you to think and hear things clearly. When I am in silence in just close my eyes and try to just listen and I can hear the birds outside or even the smallest of sounds like my cat softly sleeping.
