Where the Red Fern Grows is one of my all time favorite books but it is also one of the saddest books I have ever read. My fourth grade teacher recommended it to me and I even saw the movie adaption. It was such a great but sad story. Does anyone else enjoy this book?

We had to read this book in the seventh grade and I balled like a baby at the end. Thankfully I finished it at home. A guy friend of mine had the misfortune of finishing it in class and had to choke back tears to avoid crying in front of the entire class. It was a beautiful story though. Sad but beautiful.

That must have been a funny scene to see a guy almost crying over a book. I hope he wasn't too embarrassed. I agree, it was very sad but still beautiful.

Holy cow. We read this book in fifth grade and I cried. Several times. But it's an AMAZING book. I didn't like the movie as much as the book (like a lot of movies adapted from books..the books are just better), but it was OK.

Yes, I read it in 4th grade and I cried for the first time reading a book. The movie was okay and like you said, just didn't live up to the book.
