Have you ever attended a Writing Conference? What was your experience? | | Is it worth it to attend writing conferences? Have you ever been, and what was your experience like?
I attended one a few years back. It was my first and I didn't know what to expect, but I did enjoy it and found it inspiring. I'd love to hear from MyLotters, which one you attended--or would like to attend--and what your experience was like.

It would give one renewed zeal to continue writing. I can just imagine all the ideas one would come away with, helpful hints to get started when you're blocked, how to's that could really rejuvenate what you do.

Thanks for responding.

I would love to attend one and meet a few agents or publisher reps. I know that magazines are always pushing the WC venue...but these article writers are living in a fantasy world...There are those of us who could never afford to waste hundreds of dollars on transportation, room & board, food and fees....That having been said....I'd love to hear about your experience...what the process was, who of note you met, etc...

AnythngArt (1678) | 11 months ago | Actually the one I went to was in the city (Chicago) where I was living so I didn't stay in the hotel where the conference was located. I paid $200 for two days, but most of the audience was authors, publishers, creative writing professors, and creative writing students. The student rate was $75. It was my first one, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I did enjoy it. I didn't do any of the social events, just attended sessions.
I wasn't ready to sell anything...which is the goal of a lot of folks, and there is opportunity. I did learn a lot and found it very inspiring.
I would definitely go again or try a new venue...when I read "Poets & Writers" magazine, I see hundreds listed. I guess it's the sort of thing I would do in place of vacation.
Thanks for responding.
