if your son/ little brother prefers dolls to toy cars, what do you do?

the usual picture is: girls like dolls, boys lika cars. girls like dresses, boys like playstations. what do you do when your son or little brother prefers barbie dolls? do you pull it away and hide it somewhere under all the cash in your most secure vault? or do you allow his request for another toy doll? as i am not yet a parent, i would like to know what's on the minds of those who already are. but people like me who do not have children yet are, of course, more than welcome to have their say. :D

I'd let him have the doll... why not? Its just a toy. Children learn from their play and, if they only ever play with a restricted selection they are not getting the most from their activities. Girls like to play with cars etc and nobody questions it so why should anyone have a problem with boys and dolls... after all, aren't all these action figures just dolls in different clothing?

Yes, I have 2 adult sons. They didnt ask for Barbie's as it happens... to be honest, I dont think my husband would have been happy for them to have them as he still believes that toys are gender specific. They had free access to all the toys at various playgroups/nursery schools.

well yes and no.... I'll let him for a bit but then I'll take it away and replace it with other things like playstation and other stuff boys like, well then at the case of a 16 year old if he still like girl things etc... well then I'll have to accept he's g** and not straight, it will be tough yes but I can't make him be what he isn't

hehe yes i see. it may be scary to see your son play with a barbie. don't worry, it's not the toys that make children homosexual. if anything, the dolls will help him determine what roles girls and boys play in our world. and if a child will grow up to have a homosexual orientation, taking away the barbie doll won't stop it... :( happy myLotting! thanks for sharing your views. :)

I have two boys and when they were little and my niece would come over and bring her dolls they thought Christmas had happened all over again I never made a big deal out it and they both eventually grew out of it but they loved playing with dolls. I seen no problem with it.

hahaha! that's funny. yes, i don't see a problem with it either. the dolls will not change their gender orientation at all.
