What's your video editing software?  | | | |  I have a thing for editing. I think I have a thing for it. Whenever my mom wants me to take videos or pictures of stuff, I always end up having to transfer them to a computer and then she expects me to have an AVP [AudioVisual Presentation] a few weeks after. Now that isn't really a problem, that wasn't... until...
My eleven-year-old sister has an HP laptop that of which I installed a video editing software named Ulead VideoStudio 10. I used that one for freshman year's documentary film and it was a blast working with it. Her OS is Windows XP, and it was perfectly compatible with Ulead.
Now, my fairy godmother bought me a new laptop which had infinitely better specifications than my sister's. This one had a 250GB hard drive, runs on Windows Vista and has 3GB RAM--the biggest one I found when I was online shopping. They had it shipped and given to me on Christmas day. I installed some of the software I regularly used and...
-When I use Ulead, there's no audio. [so it's just a Visual Presentation. f*ck.]
-I tried installing Adobe PS CS4, but to no avail. It won't take it in!
Give me suggestions with the video editing software thing. The Adobe Photoshop thing is also yet to be solved, but editing's my priority.

| |  I dont often make videos and edit them. Only the few ones i have done in the past wer ewith the software that came along with the camera. It is very nice and useful

| |  You have a good computer there tell you what just take out vista and put Win xp back since win xp is the most user friendly OS than Vista ,my computer doesnt have that much space nor has that much Ram but can still take in lots of software.
Also that i suppose you are using a real version of Vista which is not allowing you to use cracked softwares.....

| |  Oh man, please, get away from Ulead Videostudio. It's a very simple program, and there isn't much you can do with it besides cut and paste the pieces... I even hate the image of the woman holding the camera when the program starts up. It's for people who don't know what they're doing with editing. The one I personally use is Sony Vegas 8.0, and other really great programs are Adobe Premiere, and Avid.
For the reasons why your programs aren't working with Vista, are they legal programs? Did you buy the programs, or just download them? I've heard that Vista has really knotched up on stopping people from using hacked software (one of the reasons I'm sticking with XP). With your problem in Ulead, of just the sound going out, it may just have to do with what you have set as your sound source. How are you capturing this video? Direct from a camera, with cables, or off a disc or camera hard drive? If it's cables, you may be hooked into your mic cable, but Ulead is reading your Line in audio.
For photoshop, I suggest getting a copy of photoshop 7. I had PS CS4 on my computer, but it took so long to load up and to use, because there is such complex pieces to it, but there is nothing that I know of that it has, that 7 doesn't have. So, 7 runs faster and smoother, doesn't have problems, and I can't find anything that CS4 has, that 7 doesn't. Try it out.

...and I noticed that Vista doesn't like illegal programs. It's just too bad that Bill Gates and Microsoft didn't think that the human mind knows how to work through things. Practically half of the software I use is pretty much downloaded/pirated, all from the internet. Puh-leeze! Cost of living's bad enough; we should get some stuff for free, right? Kidding. :)
Oh, the Ulead thing, it's just that whenever I playback whatever I have done the audio doesn't come out. When I play the audio alone, though, it works. So it's a little weird. I capture videos through this camcorded that accepts mini DVD-RWs then I have them loaded into the computer, so there aren't cables involved.
And--Sony Vegas? I've never heard of that one before, but I'll Google it sometime and maybe try it out. It's not like I'm doing this for a living; it's just for kicks.

| | my video editing program is Adobe after effects. i really don't use windows movie maker because all videos become pixelated after the making. it's really buggy too. it crashes and hangs a lot. i have a hard time using adobe after effects because it is more on the professional. and i'm just a starter. but i just need time to study Adobe After Effects. | | | | | | |

Yeah, Movie Maker sucks like heck. I wish that instead of developing better OSes, maybe they'd think of fixing that little monster. The Movie Maker's finshed product doesn't even work with a VCD player. We tried it once on a Pioneer and a Sony one--they all gave out on that thing. Hmph.
