I travel to different parts of the world fairly often on business trips and some times on holidays. It is really very fascinating to see the different cultures in the countries and to listen to the languages they speak. And, ofcourse, it would be very helpful if one could also speak the language of the places. I like learning foreign languages. So far, I can only say a few words in German, and Thai. How about you ? Do you travel abroad some times ? Do you like learning foreign languages ?

I would love to learn more foreign languages. If I had to travel for my work, before I go, I would learn how to say , hello, goodbye, please, thank you, and can you say that again slowly in their language. But these days I feel I would start speaking their language and they would hear my broad American accent and respond in English.I want to practice my French or Japanese or whatever and they want to practice their English. Well at least I tried.

That's very good Sarah. They like to learn English, practise their English. When I was in Bangkok, all the people in the markets I tried to talk to were so pleased and friendly. They took it as a chance to practise their English, and it was a chance for me to practise my Thai.

I love travelling and I love learning foreign languages. When I visit another country I always try to learn a bit of the local language, because it makes things a lot easier when you are able to understand some of the most common words. I usually try to memorize the greetings and words like "thank you" and "please". I also like to known the common signs like "open/closed", "entrance/exit" and "no trespassing". I am generally interested in languages and I always enjoy to listen to local language when I visit another country. I have studied English, German, French, Italian and Japanese at school, but I am still interested in learning more languages for instance Russian and Chinese.

I adore traveling and I wish I was like a foreign language professor but sadly I am not. I learned French for five years when I was at school. Living next door to France I find it quite useful and I often meet French speaking people when I travel. I often a few useful phases in German that have helped me out greatly in Eastern Europe in particular. I am currently learning Spanish and am really enjoying that. I would like to become fluent in it one day. I hope to try it out in South America when I do manage to get over there. I stick to learning languages with the same sort of alphabet as English. I imagine Thai is a difficult language to learn.

Hi Maxi. How are you ? Yes, learning foreign languages is always very challenging, and at the same time very interesting. It is part of the culture too, thoughts and expressions reflecting the essense of cultural values. If you will be travelling to South America, Spanish will be very helpful indeed. Best regards to you !
