Why do most Metallica fans HATE the album "St. Anger"?

I have listened to Metallica for years, I first started listening to the "Justice For All" album. I absolutely love One, the sound in that is just unexplainable. I think that is a lot of the reason Metallica fans didn't care for the St Anger album. They were known for their certain sound and when they put out the St Anger album after so many years people were upset to hear that they went away from that signature sound and went a totally different way. It just wasn't the same Metallica with out that sound.

hey i am a big metallica fan .......actually i liekd st anger very much it was teh frst of metallica that i heard then i heard all there previous stuff whihc i felt was better but saint anger was by no measure a dissapointment it was though a little single dimensional but still i enjoyed it but metallicas revious albums are by far more enriching then st anger...........there new album death magnetic totally sucks i dditn like it at all........

I listen to all kinds of genre but I'm not really a rocker or a Metallica fan. But I love the song Enter Sandman..:) is that from St. Anger?? Sorry!

Honestly new metallica just doesn't have what old metallica had. You can listen to say the black album and be awestruck. Listening to st anger just doesn't have that.

I'm a huge Metallica fan. That being said, I just couldn't get into St. Anger. I agree with a lot of things a previous poster said. I expected more since it had been a few years, it was more raw than their other albums, it just didn't fit in well with their style. The other reason I just don't like it is that there are a lot of people out there that don't have much (or any) Metallica experience. St. Anger came out, they checked it out, and from that they decided that Metallica sucks. So as a fan having to put up with all these people running around insisting that Metallica sucks for these past few years... it's been irritating to say the least.

I just don't get it why people hate St. Anger at all? the way I seen St. Anger threads the line between past albums and contemporary metallica. Its like the higly polished mature metallica in the vein of load and reload discovering its roots - young, aggressive and decadent. You see the Metallikatz writing such mature and excellent songs and play it with youthful aggression. Why do people hate it?Just dont get it at all.
