Do You sample food at your local market? Have You ever been told you shouldn't?

Well, today at my local Whole Foods I was sampling some guacamole. I accidentally dropped a little onto the floor as I bit into a tortilla chip. I looked at the floor, looked up, and noticed a glare from a female worker who was arranging produce about 20feet away from me. Well, I felt bad for making a mess, but I didn't appreciate the look. It felt like she didn't want me to even be there. I tried to ignore her, and tried one more sample of guacamole. It was very tasty. Then, I tried some of the salsa nearby. It was a bit too spicy and kicked up my acid reflux. So, I went back to the guacamole to counteract the salsa. Just then, I heard a voice calling, "Ma-am..MA-AM!..MAAM." Well, I didn't think I was doing anything wrong, so I didn't think she was talking to me...until(insert drum roll, please)she got up close to the sample as if to guard it and stated in a rude tone and facial expression, "Ma-am, you can't eat any more of the guacamole, you have sampled too much, you NEED to LEAVE some for the OTHER customers." O No She DIDN'T! I asked to speak to her manager. She said,"I'm the manager." Funny, I didn't see a name tag. I asked her name, she refused to give it to me, and said,"You can ask customer service." I asked again and she repeated herself. I asked how I would describe her, other than the fact that she had 3 thick gold chains around her neck and some rather comically drawn on eyebrows? Her friend, another female co-worker also refused to give me her name and nodded in agreement when she told me to go to customer service. Interestingly, I found out she is NOT a manager. I was furious. Normally, I get great customer service, and shopping at Whole Foods is usually a high point to my week because the people who work there seem genuinely friendly, a rarity these days. I was shocked at this encounter. I don't remember seeing this employee before and she must be new. I know the starting wage at Whole Foods is $10 for most positions. In this economy, it is a blessing to have a job. To be told I am eating too much, when there is clearly no sign saying their is a sampling limit(and I mentioned this)is absurd and downright rude. She made it seem like I was making a meal out of the guacamole. I do a lot of baking and know measurements pretty well. I sampled roughly 6 tablespoons of guacamole and 7 chips. I also happen to weigh 190lbs. and don't take too well to anyone telling me I am "eating too much.":) Has anything like this ever happened to you? Please sound off.

Okay, that just makes me angry. What the F*** has happened to customer service? Why is it that when you are in a store, the employees are just plain rude and seem to want you to leave? Don't they realize that without customers they are out of a job? Unfreakin believable. I would have actually found the store manager and told him how totally uncomfortable this person made you feel. I bet she would have been reprimanded.

Well, I did tell several employees at customer service and one manager. I don't know if he's the store manager, but he seemed very friendly and understanding. I was trying on "Crocs" about 5min before I was sampling and happen to buy many of my groceries at Whole Foods because they don't contain trans fats and they have a lot of natural sweeteners and specialty foods there that I can't find elsewhere. I buy my eggs there(which are twice as expensive as the ones I normally buy, but they contain omega-3 fatty acids, so they are better for you). Sometimes I even spend $4 on a loaf of bread because it doesn't contain corn syrup(which has been attributed to doubling the chances of adult diabetes).

How rude! I would be outraged if this happened to me. Fortunately I haven't had a problem in this situation yet but I sympathize with you. People shouldn't treat their customers that way and that lady should lose her job for her rude behavior. I would NOT be happy if someone told me I was eating too much.

I've never encountered anything like that! What a rude person. Maybe she was following orders? Either way, there's no excuse to be so rude. So what if someone has more than one bite?! If they don't want people taking more than one bite they should remove the samples! I've been known to sample a particularly yummy Jarlsberg cheese dip and then cruise around ten minutes later for another! I felt kind of bad because at $5.99 a pound I had no intention of buying any--I asked if they could give me a smaller amount and the answer was no. If I ate all that I'd blow up like a blimp!! I also sample the grapes-just one. They're usually so sour that I find a wastebasket to spit it out in. That's why I taste before I buy some things!

You should have smacked that guacamole on her face! They made it look as if you'd eat all their crappy food. Maybe their thinking you're making a buffet out of their samples. I don't really try out free samples. I don't know but they look contaminated to me. I think you should go talk to the real manager then let them show who is the boss. Nope not the real manager, definitely not the fake manager but it's you.
