how to win with a stubborn dog  |

|  my lhasa maltese has to be the most stubborn dog in the neighborhood. once she is set on something there is no changing her mind. she has recently decided that she doesn't want to do her business in our yard. so if i won't take her for a walk around the neighborhood she pulls out of her collar and runs like mighty dog. i have had to chase her over a mile before catching. while she thinks it's cute it just makes me want to make a trip to the humane society. she is three and i have had her since she was 2 mos so it's not like she's a puppy anymore. would love to hear from you other dog lovers

| |  Have you tried running FROM her instead of towards her? If you chase a dog, it's their instinct to keep going, making it a game. If you run from her, she will probably chase you. My dogs do. The trick is getting her to look at you. What I do is yell the dog's name, when he looks at me I turn and run the other way. He always chases me and I grab him and bring him back to my yard. :D

| | aww, that's tough!! What about a harness for her so she can't pull out of her collar? I've read that if a dog runs off, you CAN'T punish it no matter what, you always have to make them coming to you a positive thing. It's so hard to do, you want to yell at them for running off, but you have to try not to. :) | | | |

| |  ihasa maltese are very energetic dogs they have to burn a little more energy, if she's coming off her collar it may be time to get her a new that fits just right or tighten the one she has, she may also like seeing the scenery lol, i have two pitbulls one is two years old and the other is 3 months old and they love taking walks chasing leafs and just getting the energy out.hope u get some good advice i know sometimes they can be worse then our children lol. good luck

| |  Hey .....the best thing you could do for you and your dog is train her. I dont know your veiws but pinch collars work great and they are nnot bad or cruel like many people thing...they simply pinch the skin around your dogs neck...like the mother does to her pups, and other dogs will do to each other. Anyways...i have some good information if you check my blog...or my helium which has a few more atricles then my blog becuase it is newer.
Just so you know...we have taken our dog to training classes with a great trainer, he trains police dogs, gaurd dogs, mold detection dogs, therapy dogs, and the list goes on.
He is a great trainer and the methods in my articles and blogs explain alot of things about the pinch collar and how to train.

| |  I agree with you...training is the key. Don Sullivan's dog training DVD called the Perfect Dog is a really good one. Any dog, no matter how energenic, wants to please their master and will do whatever he/she is trained to do as long as the training is consistant and not sporadic.
