My Dog Won................... |
| |
| Today was a red letter day in my little town. The abandoned house and shed next door finally came down. At 6am this morning a huge John Deere watchamacallit, with a big toothy bucket on a huge bendy arm thingy, came rolling in from the back alley and began demolition. It woke up my dog. The dog woke up me.............. Between the 'reverse alarm', hydraulic hissing, breaking glass, snapping of broken walls, collapsing of roofs, screeching of metal on metal, the pounding of the earth when the bucket hit and the dogs frantic barking.......... Well you can imagine that my lovely dream of bananas and cream was rudely interrupted! It took all day for the house and shed to get cleared, the lilac bushes and willow trees to come out and the dog to calm down. She ran back and forth inside her dog run barking up a storm. I know loud noises bother her, but she was downright frantic. Especially when the bucket began pulling the lilac bushes away from the long side of her dog run. I stood in my side door and took pictures of the demo, but finally the dog's distress had me putting on my shoes and going out into the back yard. Spunky came right over to me and nearly scaled her fence to get to me. She then turned back to the corner of her on the demo side and barked at me to follow her. The little scrap of humanity that was driving the dump truck away from the site with the debris was yelling at me to control my rabid animal. Spunky rabid? Give me a break! But as the action had brought several neighbours out of their houses, I went into Spunky's run and over to her in the corner. And then I saw what her concern was. The hubs and I had brought several Sugar Maple Tress back from Ontario 2 summers ago and planted them around our property. They are not native to this province and we missed the colors of the leaves in the fall. Spunky had watched those trees closely all the way from the nursery in Ontario to the planting of them weeks later in our yard. She KNEW they meant a lot to us. And now one was in danger of being dragged roots first from the ground! No wonder she was upset. I signaled the driver of the watchamacallit, and he left the Maple Tree alone. If not for Spunky I would have lost one of the Maple Trees.......... Now the side lot is bare and hopefully this summer the hubs and I can finally build the Senior Housing fourplex that we have had planned for the town since we moved here. And Spunky has won her verbal war with the watchamacallit machine of death and destruction. She's gonna miss the shade from the lilac bushes though! LOL Are your pets smarter than you? Mine is. | | Dogs are smart. And it looks like you have a great one! Why did they dig up the lilac bushes if they were next to your fence? Sounds like someone who didn't know what he was supposed to remove - just clear the entire spot! Glad he didn't get your trees! You need to give your dog a special treat! | | | | | | |

| | Spunky's run is on the far left edge of our backyard and her fence runs along the property line. The lilac bushes were on the other lot and ran along the property line too and needed to be cleared for future building. The maple tree was just this side of the lilacs and could very easily have been swept away with them, and good old Spunks wasn't having any of that! LOL Yep, she got a special treat. | | | |

| | Pye probably sensed the energy building in the tree just before the crash. Animals are smart that way.........I'm sorry you lost your Maple Pat. They are to my mind, next to Oaks, the most beautiful and stately trees on earth in full growth. We planted a tower oak in our front yard along with the Maples. It would break my heart to see them gone. So it was pretty stupid of me to forget about that particular location of the one in the backyard! Thank heaven for my smart dog! | | | |

| | LOL. Spunky was like that as a puppy. Used to tangle up her lead something awful. She soon figured it out though. Give your puppers a chance and if he doesn't figure it out, send him here and Spunky will train him! LOL | | | |

| | Once the fourplex goes up, she'll have her shade back. Until then I want to put a lean to on the side of her dog house for her to curl up under. She's going to need it. The Maple Tree is still to young to cast much shade yet. | | | |

| | Hey sparks! That Spunky is such a smarty dog! I hope you gave her something really special for saving your tree! And I do hope that you will replace those lilac bushes with something to help give her shade because she is such a good watch dog and she deserves to be kept cool in the hot summer sun! She is definitely a beautiful doggy! And she even saved your life too, don't forget that when you were stuck in the snow! You better treat that sweet doggy really good! She is really very special and she loves her Mom alot! | | | | | | |

| | She gets to sleep with me tonight! LOL Can't get much better than that! ROFL She already knows the seniors that will be living in the housing the hubs and I are building, so no worries there. The seniors in our town can't maintain their homes anymore, so hubs and I have designed and will build self-contained units for them so they don't end up in old age homes in the city. We already have a waiting list as long as my arm! LOL And you can bet Spunky will get spoiled rotten by them! LOL | | | |

| | Sparky I have had one animal that was smarter than my kids and hubs, but she didn't even try with me, (I was her favorite, LOL). Her name was ChiChi and she was a spoiled baby, she passed away last year at the ripe old age of 13 in doggy yrs, 91 in human. Broke my heart in two. Now I just have devious 4 legged kid's, they all know how to play me, esp my African Grey,(But she is 2 legged), she calls me like she is calling one of the other animals, whistles and says, "Come on Baby, Rub, want rub!" "Want treat, come on Baby". Now how can you say no to that, she has a large vocabulary and learns easily. She is the smartest of the crew of 2 dogs, 2 cats, a lion's head bunny, sand crab and Cleatis my Beta fish,(of course he has no legs) who bumps his nose to the glass in the fish bowl to get my attention, he loves for me to talk to him, and his bowl sits right beside me on my end table. Now add all these with my 2 legged brats, and put your imagination to work...what a family, never a dull moment. Hugs Marilyn | | | | | | |

| | It was 106 the day I took that pic. They were finding shade in places there was no shade!!! They're lucky. I have tons of bushes & 2 huge pecan trees. One of the larger bushes is next to my back porch. My male curls up behind the bush & in the corner of the porch/house. It's warm in winter & cool in summer!!! | | | |

| | The worst thing about leaving Ontario for other parts of the country was missing the Maples in fall. If one of the ones we brought here had been swept away I don't think the hubs would have forgiven me. And he thinks that Spunky is a pain! LOL Silly man. | | | |
