Has anyone ever read the unabridged version of A Christmas Carol?

This weekend I just listened to it on audio book. It took up three CDs. I was expecting it to take up more. It's a little creepier than I was aware of. The T.V. underestimates the full power of Dickins' ghosts. They are not presented as that scary on the T.V. When I heard the first CD, I was lying in bed, unfortunately, and had to sleep with the light on the rest of the night (I'm not kidding). Have you ever read this book in it's unabridged version? What do you think? Did you, like me, find that it differed greatly from the T.V. version?
