Magic Jack  

Hi,, I used to have a Magic Jack & it was the biggest piece of crap ever! It would disconnect my conversations out of the blue, it would only work on occasion, having conversations was nearly impossible because it would cut the other person's voice out or make it so choppy that you couldn't understand them. I actually needed an ambulance one night and I couldn't get it to connect so that I could call 911...Butchie put an end to the whole mess when he tripped over the cord & broke the jack right into two. I would never recommend this thing to anyone!

I have heard the commercials. I am waiting to see how others respond. I hope one of our television stations does a "does it work" feature about it. I do not know how it would affect my internet, as I get it through the phone company.

A while back we tried a similiar device like this. It worked really well for several months and then they just went down. We couldn't call out long distance and they were not returning calls and no one knew what was going on. We finally got them to refund our last months payments and cancel our account. It was all over the internet about people having the same problems we were having and I don't know if they ever got it up and running again. Maybe this is the same people and they've changed their names to try it all again.

No, I have not heard of Magic Jack, I don't think they have it in the UK but I'm a bit weary about these things, there must be a catch or some sort. Hugs.

I have not heard of this until today. I just went to the link and looked over the site. If it works like it is suppose to it would be a great way to get phone service. Who wouldn't want to pay $40 dollars or less a YEAR for phone service. I just don't think I want to have something that has no customer service other than chat. It is hard enough to get help from someone who speaks clear English these days, let alone only being able to connect through the internet. If I can ever get my husband into the cell phone age I don't intend to have a house phone anyway. God Bless!

I have wondered about this too. I am always leary of those things that are basically an informercial and I never trust them unless I can try them myself. I don't mind trying new things but I don't have the money now to waste on items that don't work. If this item truly worked well, it would eliminate the need for phone companies and I just can't imagine that.

I actually bought one of these about 6 months ago. I also had to return it. What they don't tell you is that they might not even have your area code available. So while it may not cost you anything to call someone, everyone you know in your town may be calling long distance to reach you. Family, friends, employers and doctors don't usually like calling long distance to reach you each time. We also found that the thing disconnected us constantly in mid sentence. So after about three weeks of fighting it we returned it for a refund. I am hopeful that they can work out the bugs from this system so I can give it a try again in the future.

I know some people have Magic Jack here in Calif. They say it is really good
for the one time fee per year. I would like to see if it is good or not.
Right now I have Vonage and it disconnects my phone conversation

My sister has it. I don't think it does much for her. You have to be by the computer to answer. She is always on the go. SO I end up calling her cell. Seems like a waste to me.

What's shakin', Chevee! I do not own a magicJack yet but am getting one my next week. When I get it I will give you a call so we can see how well it works. My friend, Nick, who is in India right now uses one to call my co-worker's family, and Shari said it comes in crystal clear. As you know, I am a member of a tele-book club and the cost per week is getting a bit expensive so I've decided to try magicJack to keep my expenses in check. I'll let you know when I have it and we'll both see how it pans out.
