Video CamCorder problem...copying to DVD to play on TV ...HELP!!! |
| |
| I am not sure I have the right category - but it is the closest I can find... I have A Sony Camcorder with mini DVD's that hold 30 minutes of video. I finally figured out how to download the videos from the camera to the PC harddrive. Okay, fine.. they are on my pc... but now I want them on a DVD so that I can play them on my TV and make copies to give to others... these are of family movies, nothing comliplicated. So I do a "create DVD" option thing and it copies the videos from the PC to the DVD that is in the disk drive. Problem 1. the mini DVD's only hold 30 minutes of time. The DVD-RW that I use, allows 4 hours of time to be copied...however, I copied one mini (30 minutes) to the DVD and it is full! Why can't I copy up to 4 hours on a DVD-RW? 30 minutes fill a 4 hour DVD...what's up with that and how can I fix it? Problem 2. I verified that the DVD was copied right - it does play on my PC. I put it into the DVD player of my living room TV and it played...I put it in my bedroom DVD Player and it doesn't play, but says "Incorrect disk".. So how do I get the DVD to play on any tv? Does this mean that a TV dictates which style of DVD it will accept so I have to ask each person what their TV takes, go buy a bundle of DVD's in that style for each person? ANyone have any solutions? Also I was thinking of getting a DVDirect Recorder - which copies from the camcorder to a box device that copies what is on the camcorder directly onto a DVD...and again how do I know which style of DVD to use? Anyone have one of these or know about them? Sony makes one and my camera is sony so I know it will be compatiable...but still.....problems are my un-wanted best friend and they don't make life easy! | | | | | |

| | Well the mini DVD is what comes with the camera - a small DVD, just like the normal ones. I play it on the Camera which is hooked up to my PC.I see the videos on the PC screen. No problem there. I can edit and put them on the hard drive...no problem. I can even (and I have worked on this endlessly!) getting them to copy from the hard drive to a DVD. They are copied there and I can play that DVd on my PC, HOWEVER...it won't play on (apparently) any DVD player or TV - and I dont' know if it is the TV not accepting or the DVD player not accepting. ANd if this is "how it works" how can copying to DVD be so popular? I mean Kodak has a machine in drub stores that you can use to make a copy of a dvd... what if you copy one and it doesn't work on your PC, TV or DVD Player? They don't appear to be a universal DVD....so how can things like this and saving pictures to DVD to view also on TV... be so popular and the wave of the future? If it doesn't work on everything...how can we perserve our memories and such on DVD? There has to be a way as all the movie DVD's for sale work on all DVD players and TV's....what am I missing? | | | |

| | i have a mini dvd video camera too but if you want that to play on your dvd player you need to buy the appropriate dvd-cd for that. mine is playable if it is compatible. for example mine is dvd+rw i can use dvd-rw but i can not play it on my dvd player because it is not compatible with the video cam recorded and i needs to be finalized it.... after doing that it can be playable already. | | | |

| | That is what I am seeing - but the problem is...what if that one tv goes out...there goes my family movies as the dvd they were copied on isn't compatible with my other tv. I loose my family movies! And how do I get copies for the rest of my family? I'd have to check each of them to find out what is compatible and buy that kind of dvd ..could be a different style dvd for each member of the family!!! And same thing.. if they replace their TV or dvd player - they loose the movies too... or is there a catch? I can't even get Sony to tell me about this and it is their camera! | | | |

| | the husband of my sister suggested that you buy a video capture card. thats a software that can help you convert your video so that if you copy it, it will be playable in any dvd player. i dont know exactly what this can do for you but he said that the instruction are all there. goodluck | | | |

| | I think I have the exact same camera. My husband bought it for me for my birthday a couple of years. I just now figured out how to put the videoo individuals on my computer (he bought me the BIG Roxio software package for video editing) but I've yet to try putting these clips on DVD. I'd like to, though. I will forward this discussion to my husband and see if he can explain it. He's a genius when it comes to these things. | | | | | | |

| | Part of your problem is with the format of the DVD player (+RW vs -RW), but part is probably with the software. Remember that commercial DVDs play on any player, and the DVD format doesn't matter. There are several ways a DVD can be written. If you write .avi files, you will be OK on your PC and some DVDs. .mov files will work with most PCs and some DVDs... Best you set up your burning software to write to ANY DVD. The chaepest reliable solutions I know for this soution are from ASHAMPOO and AVS. AVS has a whole heap of really cheap audio and video conversion software nd b-urning solutions, and ASHAMPOO makes inexpensive, reliable and easy to use burning programmes. | | | | | | |

| | The problem is most likely an alignment difference between the DVD players. I've seen cases were even a CD will play in the house but not in the car. One thing you might try is the Roxio Media Creator Suite. My wife also has a Sony Handicam. I got her this software for not only DVD ripping/burning, but also format conversion so that the videos will upload to YouTube, Gather, etc. | | | | | | |

| | When recording onto a disc using a DVD writer, you should be able to select the picture quality of the finished movie you're making..for example,my DVD recorder can be switched between 1 hour and 6 hours of recording(highest quality to lowest).there is also an option once you finish your recording to "finalise" the recording that it can be played on any DVD player. Sounds like your 30 minute movie is being transferred at high quality if it fills a 4 hour disc. Some DVD players won't work with DVD-RW or DVD-R discs..you'd need to check with the handbook or manufacturer-some have the types of disc they'll accept detailed on the front panel.the good news is,your friends and family will probably be able to watch your movies on their computers...good luck! | | | | | | |
