Sales Tax...  | | | |  How do you feel about state sales tax? Do you live in a state that has income tax or sales tax...or both? Which do you see as a better taxation? I live in Washington State and we have about an 8% sales tax rate. I certainly wouldn't want to see a state income tax, because the sales tax wouldn't go away. We'd just have the two of them, I think.

| |  i am from the philippines, jellen.
people here are already wary of too much taxation. this is what happens when a country is neck deep in debt. the people will have to suffer as, it is really the populace that will be used to ease out the burden of the need to face debt repayments.
we all know about the existence of sales tax way long ago when i was still much too young yet. however, before i could even call myself a senior citizen, the government keep on slapping the citizenry tax measures after tax measures which, are getting heavier and heavier through the years.
by now, we are burdened with the latest one of them all, it is called vat (value added tax). well, all of us may not like it getting imposed but, is there any choice for the citizenry?...

| |  Well we live in one of the more fortunate states that has both. I must admit though after living in the east this state tax is almost nothing and the sales tax is I think about 6 1/2 % now. They do exclude medicine and food from that though so it is not to bad. I have lived in states like NY, MICH, ILL that had much higher taxes and they all had both sales and income taxes. With the economy as it is and states just looking for ways to increase their revenue I am surprised you ahven't already got it. I think it is just a matter of time.

| |  We have a sales tax and no income tax in Texas and that is the way I prefer it. There is no discrimination in a sales tax, te rich and the poor all pay the tax for whatever is purchased.
