Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs forty-six days before Easter. It falls on a different date each year, because it is dependent on the date of Easter; it can occur as early as February 4 or as late as March 10

So it has something to do with Easter. Are there ashes involved? What is the meaning of it? Ah, I know, I have too many questions.
Thanks for the input.

nowhere in the bible can we find the practice or observance of ash wednesday, though in the old testament, people uses dust and ashes as a symbol of their repentance or morning.
actually Roman Catholics, orthodox and some protestant denominations observed this tradition.
the main point for lent is for us to repent from our sins, should it be done only during lent or daily?
it's your choice :-)

Ash Wednesday is the first day of lent and occurs forty six days before Easter. It is a practice of placing ashes on the forehead of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The priest recite " Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return" I failed to attend this ceremony last Ash Wednesday.

The little bit I know is they take last years psalm branches from psalm Sunday and burn them to make an ash..Then I guess the priest puts this on the forehead of the people and blesses them..I knew about this because though I don't know any Catholics, I did have a neighbor who made a comment that afterwards the family went to the store and a bag boy wondered about it because people were coming in with "dirty foreheads"..We had a good laugh over that one..

ash wednesday is being practice by catholics. its like we are reminded to amend our sins and we are made aware that when we die we will become ashes. its like renewing ourselves as individual and be one with God in terms of doing good things. catholics are preparing for the lent and that is the process how jesus sacrifice himself to save the people from sin. this is the catholics beliefs. after the lent comes the easter which is the resurrection of jesus.
