Flash Drive VS External hard disk/Which one do you prefer and why? |
| |
| Well hard disk and flash memory base storage is getting cheaper there days. The largest thumb drives currently available is 8gb,16gb and 32 gb. The largest hard disk avaliable come is terabytes! Which brand Do you prefer? I prefer kingmax thumb drives. I prefer to keep my important files on a thumb drives and my non important files on a hard drive. The reason for that is because flash drive is can sustain a drop to the floor.Compared to harddisk if you drop it to the floor, your important data is a gonner. Please feel free to comment: ) | | Flash Drive | | | | |

| | I'm a External HDD user and I think that using a Ext.HDD is better than using a FlashDrive many issue said that FlashDrive only last after 1000 writes(99% true) so it means that FlashDrive is like a disposable device(ouch) | | | | | | |

| | Well external cannot sustain shock else the mechanical part of the hdd will be damage. My Point is I don't use my flash drive regular..Basically I just dump my important filed there and will only look it up after a year. Happy mylotting. | | | |

| | It might be appropriate calculation, I am using my flash drive since 4 years.. Even Hard Disk may expire or damage if we write data that much number of times.. | | | |

| | Flash Drives are more susceptible to damages and such. Like the USB connector breaking from the stick, etc. Plus external HDs are much more sturdy and reliable and usually mean more space. Not to mention, more reliable. | | | | | | |

| | I disagree. Because hardisk has moving part thus is much more sustainable to damage and wear,as in comparison flash drives does not have moving part at all. | | | |

| | I use both. An external drive and a flashdrive both have their own pros and cons. Flash drives are cheap and compact, but they have a shorter lifespan than external drives. They can only last up to a thousand read/writes, and most do not even last that long - either the electronics inside give out or the USB connector gets broken. As to your comment about dropping an external drive on the floor and ruining it, it all depends on the brand and model of your external drive. Some maxtor and western digital XDD's have rubberized casings that can sustain a drop of up to 6 feet. I've accidentally dropped my 500gb XDD twice and it's still working. | | | | | | |

| | Even though there are already storage devices that could handle monstrous file sizes, I wouldn't be able to fill it up with the things that I usually get to handle. Music files, videos, documents, games and all that.. I wouldn't still be able to fill half of a storage device that had 320 Gigabytes of free space. I already have an eight Gigabyte flash drive since I use to download files from my laptop and tranfer them to my desk top for burning but, I have not done that for a long while. I now have a 160 Gigabyte hard disk got it into a hard disk enclosure so that I could simply 'dump' anything that I could put in it. Well, by the time that I have rendered a flash drive useless, plenty of other flash drives would've already been more affordable. | | | | | | |

| | I guess it will be hard disk for me.. Because i dun store much things in my computer, and i'm not in those field of work that requires me to be on the go for often too.. Thus, i have no use for a thumbdrive at all ^_^ ON top of that, i dun have anything important or files regarding to my work, and so, a thumbdrive is actually redundant to me.. hehe ^_^ | | | | | | |

| | in my opinion, a flash drive with 20-30G storage is enough for your normal work. it can be usually used to store some documents, files, pictures which sizes are not normally more than 200M. some larger files, games, videos can be stored in the hard disk of your PC. | | | | | | |
