So Frustrating!

So on Friday my boyfriend and I got a letter taped on our apartment door from our landlord. We live on the third floor, and the letter said that on Monday they were having contractors come in that would be removing the stairs from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor of our building. They said that they would start at 8am and should be finished by 5pm, and during this time we would not have access to our apartment. The letter said, "Please be sure that you have everything you will need from your apartment when you leave in the morning, this also means that pets will need to be removed if you have a dog that will need to be walked during the day. If you will not be leaving your apartment on that day, please understand that you will need to remain in the apartment the entire day." Now, my boyfriend leaves for work in the morning and comes back in the evening. I work from home, so I'm home all day with our dog. And on such short notice, we had nowhere to take the dog for the day! Luckily my boyfriend's mom had Monday off work, so she said she could take our dog for the day. And then it snowed on Monday. The letter also said that all work would be weather permitting and if it rained, the project would be delayed "a day or two" and in that case we would NOT be re-notified. So yesterday we had no idea if they'd be doing the stairs today or not! We called the landlord and left a message. No one called us back. Today's almost over and our stairs are still here! So I guess they'll be doing it tomorrow. Problem is my boyfriend's mom works tomorrow, so we're not sure if she can take the dog or not. The whole situation is very frustrating! They didn't give us a whole lot of warning to begin with, and then they were very vague about "in case of weather" plans! And not being able to go in and out of your apartment for a whole day is pretty major stuff! Do you live in an apartment? Have you ever? Did your landlord every pull any crazy stuff like this on you?

Hmm... shouldn't the landlord be providing you with an alternative way to get out of your apartment? Or at least a temporary ladder to allow you to move up and down between the second floor and your floor? What if you need to get groceries? Or you really need to run some errands or collect a parcel from delivery? OR worst! An emergency! And there is nothing you can do if the contractor decides to take the week off cos the snow is too thick to get any work done?

You'd think they would. But I guess they assume all of their tenants are at work from 8-5 so it's no big deal. And if not, then a couple days is enough notification for us to make other plans!

Hmm... if it were me, I would have kicked a fuss about it! Imagine, I have to take day off in order to stay home so the stairs can be fixed? It is so inconvenient! And what happens if there is an emergency? Or like I said, the contractor decided it is too cold to work and leave the job till the "conditions" are better? Hmm... anyways, are the stairs fixed yet?

I think so. The note said "a day or two" due to weather, so we got the dog out of the place for 2 days. After the two days, the stairs still looked the same. However, the letter was unclear if they were going to be putting in new stairs, or just removing the stairs to do some work on the roof underneath and then replacing the stairs. If it was the latter scenario, then the stairs probably wouldn't look any different. So they may have done that. I don't know. Nobody was home to see! But they worked on our roof (the one above our heads, not under the stairs... I guess what is under the stairs is the roof for the 2nd floor apartments) all week long. Then over the weekend they painted the railings on the stairs. So we assumed if they were painting then the work on the stairs was done. You don't paint the railings, then do construction on the stairs! And now there's no workers on our building any more... but there's some workers working on the buildings down the road. So I *think* they're all done with our building. I sure hope so!

This is obviously the work of the SITH (supervillain in the house) to install a shark tank under the stairs, as he didn't have a basement to work with. *posts a link to mugshot of the villain* http://wwww.picable.com/Nature/Animals/Mouse.254881 and the press release by CAT http://www.purpleslinky.com/Humor/Wanted--Escaped-Super-Villain.564779

*mumbles about having too many "w"s in "www" for the mugshot link resulting in a broken link and posts again* http://www.picable.com/Nature/Animals/Mouse.254881
