Ethanol, the high performance fuel: Pure 100% ethanol has an octane rating of 113, so adding 10% ethanol to gasoline raises the overal octane by 2 to 3 points. Ethanol has a lower BTU value than gasoline, meaning that ethanol burns cooler and is gentler on the vehicle's engine - less wear and tear leads to longer engine life.

Although I am for biofuel production, but there is underlying issue about its production as some says that it will compete with food production as well. There are countries that have supported production and they suffered food crisis because of these. I truly believe that we have to strive harder to balance this issue out as I can see that the world's crude oil is fast becoming more expensive and is becoming rarer by the moment. There will come a time where the supply will stop and we should start preparing for that time to come.
