Which subject to choose?

hi all. This year my neighbor is going to univerty.He has arguments with his parents.They are not sure which subjct to choose.He himself wants to study traditional Chinese medicine,which is difficult and not popular.His parents do not argree.they think their son is not realitic.If so,aftre grauation,it is hard to find jobs and it is hard to study well.They prefer IT,economics or other practical subjct. what do you think?

He should be allowed to choose what he wants to do. If he is pushed into something that he doesn't have an interest in, then he is much more likely to fail. Apart from that, life is too short to spend the time doing something you don't want to do.

I think the child should be allowed to chose whichever subject he wants.Its his life . how sad it will be for him and difficult too to study things in which he is not intrested .I am a teacher and I have seen many careers ruined because of parents intrests.I believe that whichever subject one takes one should be best in it.That will happen only if one likes it and has passion for it.

In Singapore, it's the other way round. Many parents encourage their children to study medicine, both Western medicine and traditional Chinese Medicine. Even now in the hospital, there are TCM clinics, and the patients can choose to be treated concurrently. I guess if your neighbour is willing to work hard and has good command of English, a combination of both studies of medicine will pave a way for him to be great researcher later on.
