Do you like this saying... "I believe in God, for those of you who don't you'd better hope you're right." I saw this on a bumper sticker and the words, "You'd better hope you're right" Were in flames.. Do you like this saying or not? Why or why not?

hi there i am a christian my self and i don't realy like that saying jesus tought primeraly to love and since God is love i don't think that it would be his aproch eaither i would much rather have a bumper sticker saying "jesus loves you" or "my dads not just great hes God" or just a simple fish symble i think that to love by love has a much greater impact on other people than hate does

First thing, sorry about the title I goofed it up...lol I am a christian too. I dont see it as hate, I see it more as a warning... a pretty direct one, but It says what the bible says, Follow God, have faith in God, obey God, or go to Hll, pretty much. While God teaches love, and forgiveness, he also says deny him on Earth and he'll deny you to his father. So, I mean there are consequences in the bible, it isnt all love and flowers, right?

i know what you mean and yes there are conciquences to not following god but when most non christians switch off when you say something in such a direct way, i think you also have to concider who your trying to reach and how, god doesnt want anyone to end up on the wrong side of judgment so if we need to use a nicer aproch and exhibit gods love to reach people then thats what we should do, as christians we are supposed to be christ like and gods mouth pieace on earth and god always touched people with love first, im not saying don't tell people the truth but to just do it with love first, you want people to want what we have but for them to do that they first need to see something they want and get them interested then they will realise and here that its something they need

I can agree with you, however, sometimes there are people who only respond throught threats, or feeling something bad could happen to them. Most people I used to know would joke on bumper stickers like you were talking about the love ones, etc. There was one that said real men dont fight, they kneel down and pray.... I have seen many people making fun of that one. But this one actually makes you think...you cant please everyone, but maybe making someone think is good enough? What do you think?

I don't really like that saying at all stacy - I do believe in God but I think that type of saying is the kind of thing that puts non believers right off as it seems very arrogant and smug to me. I believe that Christians (not just Christians but I use that as an example ) shopuld be more considerate and care about everyone , as well as respecting peoples right to believe what they want to ! xxx

I was asked my opinion and i gave it - I have no idea why you are now asking why it others me and what nerve it could have hit. I do think it gives the wrong impression of Christians , I am a Christian myself and I know what I believe when this life ends but I am not arrogant enough to believe that I am right and anyone who believes otherwise is wrong. I gave my opinion and I stand by that, as long as you are hurting no one else I also believe you have the right to your opinion whatever that may be but I would be very interested in knowing why you went on the offensive with me.

I laugh when I see or hear sayings like that. It's a logical fallacy based on a false dichotomy. It assumes that there either is a God, or their isn't. What it doesn't take into consideration is that there a hundreds of other philosophies and Gods that are just as likely to exist as the Christian God. What's also amusing is that people that use it assume it's going to scare an atheist into considering that there might be a God. It never works, and it only ends up amusing or annoying atheists.
