Dora The Explorer is getting a makeover |
|
What do you think of this? I personally prefer Dora to stay young. I dont think she needs to be a 'tween. This is a result of Nick's attempt to widen the range of their viewers. With the older Dora coming up, parents must be more attentive and should always ready to guide their kids' viewing.

1. Jae2619 (1135) | 9 months ago | I really don't understand why they would move her up to the "tween" age group as she does just fine in the toddler age group. It's really gonna hurt their ratings, i think instead of drawing in more rating. I think most kids who are at the "tween" age group will still think of her as a baby cartoon. If they move her up to that group, My 18 month will not be allowed to watch it, and either will my 6 year old.

lipsticknladdles (411) | 9 months ago | I dont have my own kids yet, but I have a 5 year old niece who watch Dora a lot. I guess If Dora grows up on TV, I'll just get her DVDs of the younger Dora. I have nothing against the 'tween Dora but I just dont think her interests will be age appropriate for 5 yrs olds.

lipsticknladdles (411) | 9 months ago | Some kids will really be thrilled esp.if Dora is gonna be like Hanna Montana-ish. Parents just need to guide them more. Happy Mylotting.

3. elmolovesu (382) | 9 months ago | Hi lipsticknladdles. My daughter used to watch Dora when she was younger.I like Dora the way she is right now..making her a tween would make them lose the toddlers market...just my opinion. I agree with you, parents would have to guide their kids' viewing. Thanks and Happy mylottin!

lipsticknladdles (411) | 9 months ago | they might loose the toddler market but they will gain the "tweens". Thats whats sad. There are so many shows for that age group and the little ones have lesser to watch. Sometimes if the younger age group watch the shows suited for older kids, they adapt- which may have results that are both negative & positive. MY friend's daughther is 6 yrs old, but she acts like Hannah Montana, lol!

4. AngryKittyMSV (1862) | 9 months ago | My 4 year old and 18 month old love Dora just as she is, if they make her look like those awful Bratz dolls, I'll be forced to stop them from watching her.

lipsticknladdles (411) | 9 months ago | Thats what I told my brother too. Her daughter ( my 5 yr old niece) watches Dora a lot. I dont like her watching Bratz too! Not age-appropriate for 5 yrs old. Happy Mylotting!

5. JoyfulOne (4228) | 9 months ago | Gee, I hadn't heard about that. I don't see why they would ever consider it considering the age range that enjoys the show is 4 & 5 year olds. I've never met older kids who were even interested in the show. Guess it's time my grandson watches something else. It's a shame though, he learned a lot with this show and was also picking up some Spanish here and there. This makes no sense at all, I think the show is not going to appeal to the tween market because it's characters are way to 'kiddie' for them. Figures, they take away the good stuff for the little ones to try and go for a more lucrative market.

lipsticknladdles (411) | 9 months ago | I dont know where & when exactly it was announced but I have been reading blogs & licensemag.com. Accdg to them Nick and Mattel announced that the grown-up Dora the explorer dolls will be out in the market this coming fall. Im quite sure, the show will follow. Many parents are not so happy about this.I do agree that the stuff for the little ones to watch are becoming less & less these days and thats really sad!

6. julialaurene0206 (798) | 9 months ago | As long as Nickelodeon does not abandon the pre-schoolers (and by proxy parents like me) that have made Dora as popular as ever, I think a tween makeover can be successful. The Nick Jr., Nick Teen, and Nickelodeon brands are very distinct, I believe that Dora can live in both worlds simillar to the Looney Tunes/ Tiny Toon parallel. As my 3 year old daughter grown, it would be nice if the characters she love could grow with her.

7. wonttakelong (1604) | 9 months ago | I cant think of one single older kid that would be caught dead watching Dora even if they did make her older they still wouldnt watch it the same thing that happened with rugrats will happen the all growed up version will suck and they will lose ratings faster than they hoped to build them

8. koalatbs (564) | 9 months ago | I agree with you lipsticknladdles. I do not think they should do that with Dora The Explorer. Leave her the way she is for all young children to enjoy. I hadn't heard about this but I do not agree with it.

10. liaamur (198) | 9 months ago | whoa. my neices and nephews (and i) watch dora a lot, too. and i do think she's fine the way she is right now. that's what the kids loved her to be, and why mums loved her for--being a kid. i think it's a bad idea, but we'll see what they do. i couldn't imagine a tween dora doing the same kid-stuff that the current dora does.
