Do you need your shampoo to lather?

Recently, I bought a kind of organic shampoo (called "Abba") and I was surprised to see that it did NOT lather. I later found out lathering exists because all of the chemicals in shampoos, which got me thinking. I personally like lathering shampoo - it makes me feel like my hair is actually getting clean - it felt weird using a shampoo that doesn't. What about you? Do the shampoos you buy NEED to lather? Do all of the chemicals in shampoos worry you at all? Thanks in advance!

No, you don't need lather to clean. Is the soap you're referring to the one made from talc and rocks? It doesn't lather at all but will still clean your hair. I do indeed worry about chemicals. I typically use tea tree oil shampoos as they really make my scalp feel clean and take care of the extra oils I produce. (I can get very oily hair). I also condition once a week with a deep conditioner so that my ends stay healthy. Take Care-Anora

Thanks! I think I was moreso asking if you FELT you needed it. I know that non-lathering shampoo still (of course) cleans your hair, but somehow I feel better about it when I can lather it. It's a weird mentality - and I'm not sure where I got it from, but I feel like if it's sudsy, it's probably really doing the job. . You have some good ideas. Where do you buy tea tree oil shampoos? The biggest problem with organic/natural shampoos is how much they cost, wouldn't you agree? Thanks for responding!

We've a natural store up here called Valley Natural Foods. Do you have a Co-op near or a Sprouts? Natural food stores may have specials on these types of shampoos, etc. And yeah, cost is a bit, but it's one of my luxuries lol.

hello maezee Do you need your shampoo to lather? i have purchased an off brand of shampoo before to only have it not lather up good like that, and i did not like using the shampoo either. i do as a matter of fact like for my shampoo to lather up and get as soapy and sudsy as it possibly can. lol you know? i just do not feel like that my hair gets clean when that i use a shampoo that doesn't want to lather up. that would be like using a bar of soap and not being able to get it to lather up either, and one can probably purchase that kind of soap as well. i just use like a handfull of shampoo in my hand when that i shampoo my hair, and that is plenty of shampoo to get the shampoo to lather up really good. it feels so good to shampoo your hair and then rinse it clean, dry it and style it for the day. take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

I agree! I get this nice feeling too, when I can lather the shampoo. And it's true, you can make a small dime-sized amount go really far! . Are you at all concerned about the chemicals put into your hair, though? (If you don't know what I'm talking about..check out the "ingredients" label on your shampoo bottle, and you'll see what I mean! eek!) Thanks for responding!
