We Watched A REALLY OLD Movie Last Night.

Last night my husband and I watched Maytime, on TMC (Turner Classic Movies). Maytime is one of the many old movies starring Jeanette McDonald, and Nelson Eddy. I'd heard the program as a radio play on an old Lux Radio Theater broadcast, but as yet I'd never seen the movie. Anyone else ever seen Maytime, or any other really old movies recently? Let's hear about them!!

I've never seen "Maytime," but it's odd that you bring up old movies. Just last night I was lamenting that they never put the really old classics on TV anymore (old back and whites with Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, etc). (I don't get cable, so maybe they are all over TV and I just don't know it.) I used to get a real education in great movies on those late Friday and Saturday nights when I would stay home and switch on an old treat. I can even remember as a kid, my dad used to stay up late when they had an old World War II movie on. It's even getting hard to find them at places like Blockbuster anymore. People are always trying to see the latest thing, a lot of which is pretty mediocre by comparison. I think a whole generation will end up growing up without this wonderful film history, and that's a shame. Ok, now I am showing my old age...how depressing.

Here on Canadian cable, we get the best of the really old movies from American cable channels (like TCM) and also Canadian channels. There are always movies from the '30s, '40s, and '50s on. I would really like to see Nelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald in "Rose Marie" again. Hopefully it will be on Canadian TV since he played the classic RCMP officer that was imitated many times since.

I haven't watched one recently but I have one of my faves on dvd - Calamity Jane starring Doris Day (I love her!!) I have about 4 of her other movies too but this one has to take the cake. It is a musical (I'm not really into musicals but this is FUNNY).

I LOVE Turner Classic Movies channel. I might have seen "Maytime." I have seen lots of old movies on TCM, but I often forget what the names of movies are. I find myself watching them again and noticing I saw it already, because I couldn't recognize the name.

I've never heard about "Maytime", honestly this is only the 1st timeDuring the download craze a while ago, my wife & i watched old films like Papillon, Escape From Alcatraz, Escape From Sobibor. If not mistaken, all these 3 are based on true stories. Oh, I watched Kelly's Heroes the other day starring Clint Eastwood. It's about during the world war 2 I think where this small band of American army which eventually turned into a big one, haha went behind enemy lines to steal gold from a Nazi guarde bank. The gold was worth 16 million, hahaQuite an enjoyable movie I would say!~
