Have you ever realized a long-time dream for your life?

That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing your story (and stories!) with us. It is so encouraging to hear about people that have realized their dreams. We are all given gifts. Some of us never realize our potential while some do but are afraid to act on them. When we embrace our gifts and put them to positive use, we can do amazing things!

Oh, and I completely forgot to say, "CONGRATS" to you on your radio show. That's awesome.

Thanks for sharing that! I am not much of a world traveler, but one of the places that I would love to visit is Greece. That must have been a wonderful experience for you! I really love the rich literary history of Greece - Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey are two of my favorites.

That is great that you are on track to realize your dream! I would love to get back to work in the theatre, but my disability makes it really difficult right now. I hope that I can reach a point, physically, that I can return to doing what I love. I know that there are performers that are disabled, but with theatre it is as much of a 'right place, right time' as it is an ability issue. I hope that you can achieve your goal!

The radio station isn't mine, I just applied to be a DJ on an existing site. It tool about a month from application to approval for me to get up and live on the air. I saw an ad online looking for internet DJs, so I figured that I would apply.

That's great! I have recently realized the ease of travel with a little bit of planning. I don't have a huge desire to travel abroad, but it is nice to take a little vacation every once in a while. Thanks to some online rewards programs, I have been able to accumulate some 'frequent flier miles' without actually traveling. With these rewards programs, I saved up enough points to spend a night in New York City (or several nights in a less costly place!) without having to pay for a hotel room! Now that I am enrolled in these rewards programs, it makes traveling on a shoestring budget a whole lot easier and appealing!

One place that I would like to visit, though, is Greece. I don't really have a desire to go to France, but I would like to visit the Paris Opera House due to the book/movie/play 'The Phantom of the Opera.' Other than that, I am pretty content to visit places here in the United States.

It is definitely a great feeling to realize a dream!

I would suggest that you check in your area for community theatre groups. There is probably a lot more going on in your area than you are aware of. For instance, we have a couple of theatre groups within a 20 mile radius. A few years ago, a friend of mine called me out of the blue and asked me if I would like to be in a production of 1776. They were having a hard time finding enough guys to fill all of the roles. Of course I said YES! One of the girls that was in the play is now living and working in New York City.

My point is that community theatre might not be your ultimate goal when you say that you want to be on stage, but it can certainly be a stepping stone to the venue of your dreams.

I don't think that you are ever too old to have a dream for your life. Sure, as we age, those things might change. As to my radio show dream, it is really nothing terribly life-altering but it is something that I always wanted to do. If I had not achieved it, I would not have any regrets. I think that is the difference between a dream and a desire - the feeling of regret or lack thereof.

For instance, I love to follow football - American football, not what Americans call soccer. I went to a really small high school that didn't have an organized football team so other than playing football with my friends I never really had the opportunity to play. When I went to college, I had the chance to play for my college football team. I played for a while, but developed tendinitis in my shoulders so I was unable to continue with the sport. I had the desire to play football, I got the chance, it didn't work out. I have no regrets. I think, though, that if I sat here in my recliner watching football on TV and hadn't had the chance to play myself, I would always have regretted that. It was never my dream to play professional football as I never felt that was in my grasp in the first place.

That's great! We have something in common. I also recently published my first book - and I used lulu.com as well! Writing a book has also been a dream of mine, though not as long held as doing a radio show. Also, my book was not what I originally had in mind when I first envisioned writing one.

I checked your profile to see about your book. I would recommend changing the font color or the background color where you promote the book. The text is very hard to read and if I wasn't there for the purpose of looking into the book I probably would not have made the effort.

Your observations are much appreciated. I'm not too concerned about the contest as I am waiting for my ISBN numbers but yeah it would be great! LOL I made a small adjustment to the display as you reccomended, removed the bold from the text and made it white instead of off white. I hadn't noticed it hard to read but if someone else does and says so, how many simply didn't bother?

Lulu was my way of getting around the old catch 22 - publishers want you to have an agent and agents want to work with published authors. Once I have my ISBN's and am listed in bookstore lists I intend to begin a serious marketing campaign. For now, I am basking in the feeling of accomplishment as I'm sure you are!

Oops...now you have white text on a white background. I need to highlight the text to read it at all.

I think you have just helped me to realize something! On my puter and all I log into with Internet Explorer, the page is a black background with white text, blue read more button and orange Lulu logo.

Are you using firefox or another browser?

This could be why you are seeing this as white and I need to find a format which will be seen by all browsers!

The black background of my profile is really necessary to the way it intended to be viewed! I hate to think folks haven't been seeing it like the picture I added!

I ran a topic to get more input and found that firefox displays white on some folks computers. So I changed the text to bright blue so it will show up for everyone! Thanks for your input on this!

Now I wonder though, since it shows up black on some folks browsers that are using firefox, but white on others, what is the problem with firefox that it is not translating the html correctly for some.

It is certainly a wonderful thing to be able to make your parents proud of you! Congrats on that! I love the story that you provided for the source of your dream.

Agreed! Though my children are not yet grown up (12 and 9), it is certainly a dream for them to grow healthy and well-adjusted. Congrats on your accomplishment. It seems that it is getting harder to attain the 'well-adjusted' portion of that dream for many parents.

I don't seem to have dreams anymore, well not big ones anyway .
Maybe it's because I'm very content with my life as it is .
I have little goals, like getting a project done. Getting my garden looking nice, finishng an art project . No long term, or big goals, just little things .

Dreaming can certainly add to your life. Dreaming too big, though, can be frustrating if you never achieve those goals. I don't think that any dream is too small, though.

As said above, I don't think that there is any dream too small. We need to take joy in all the 'little' things that we accomplish everyday and tend to take for granted! I wrote an article about just appreciating the sunset every day. Nothing wrong with contentment as long as we don't let it slip into complacency.

Well said and very true. I feel that most of the times happiness comes from small things...and nothing is unimportant, but one has to have motivation, some goal and work towards achieving it
