when were you in elementary and high school.... PUBLIC or PRIVATE SCHOOL? |
|
When i was elementary and high school, i enrolled in public school. My mom doesnt want me to go to the private ones because the tuition is double and even triple the tuition in public schools. And the other reasons are the students there according to her, not smart as the ones in the public school because the competition to enter the public schools is more challenging and difficult and yes, there probablity discrimination among the students (i dont say that all the private have such things) but i think there's probability that students will be differentiated based on their background... how rich she is or he is... like that. When i was in elementary up to high school, i also observed that most of the students who attended the private schools are proud people, they just want to show what they have... thats majority students that i met at that time... but some are really humble and nice. But now, i dont hould i think about private schools and public schools... For me, private schools have better facilities compare to the public ones... and this is independently stand for provide the service thats why its more expensive than the public. Hehehe... I changed my ideas towards these schools after i enrolled in private university. Hehehe... For me there's no difference between education in public and private schools, maybe only the facilities, the private ones have better facilities. Hmmm...

2. tman555 (104) | 10 months ago | I've been to private school. Since kindergarten. Personally, I find we learn much quicker. We were learning phonics the first day in kindergarten, reading in a few weeks. I agree, though. Some people are really stuck up, and some are just really nice. In private schools, there's hardly any bullying and discrimination with race and age. Most kids get along and speak with each other 3 grades apart.

4. ElicBxn (15384) | 10 months ago | Okay, I put this one aside to answer when I had a little more time to do so.
I went to a privete first grade and then for a couple of years to a privete (Catholic) high school.
In the States, property taxes pay for public schools, so there is no tuition to attend them, and it is required to go to school - even home schooling has to get tests to prove they are learning at least on grade level.
Now, when I went to school, the public schools, because of the taxes, had some what better facilities then the privete ones did, but not by a whole lot. They did offer more courses, and is why I returned to public school after 2 years at the Catholic school, because I only had a few more corses I needed to graduate.
I went to the privete first grade, because in Texas you could not start public school until you were 6 and I was only 5 when all my friends were already 6 and going into first. So I went to the privete school so I'd be in the same grade the next year.
Now, remember I am 55 and segregation was just going away in the States when I was in school and the first time I ever went to classes with blacks was at the privete school, and also met and liked lots of hispanic people there too. Back in public school there was only 1 black student - the son of a teacher - and the hispanics kept to their own "kind" there. So the first time I ever went to a mixed race school was in privete school, and I didn't have a problem with it. In fact, I was once approched by another "white" student who asked why I was hanging out with those "Mexicans" - her words, not mine - I was just stunned. The race of my friends never mattered to me - just the interests - if we had simular interests, I was good with it.

5. modstar (4959) | 10 months ago | I went to private schools on both elementary and high school. It won't matter to me if my parents enrolled me in a public school. I had to wear leather shoes back when i was in high school and my hair was too short. Nothing below my eyebrows and ears. We need to go to school so early and leave late. I think it's a lot stricter in private schools than public.

6. Theresaaiza (1582) | 10 months ago | I didn't know how my parents afforded it but me and my brother used to study in a private school in elementary and highschool. I guess they went trhough a lot of financial hardships just to carry us through.
The lessons were hard and advanced, moral values were always instilled as it is a catholic school run by nuns, simplicity and frugality were always stressed. We couldn't wear jewelries, or dye our hair, or use colorful accessories. Cellphones are banned within the campus. It was hard but at least I knew it molded me into the person that I am now.

My husband went to public school as well for most of his education. Though he did attend a private school for one school year, I think.

They obvious take very large amount of money. But public schools are mainly government school where ther eare very nominal charges. But few are good in quality a swell.

10. Anne19 (192) | 10 months ago | I've attended a private school both in my elementary and high school years. My mom has this idea that private school would provide me more opportunity to received quality teaching. Although, I personally believe that education depends on the student. If he is eager to learn, he would do everything to learn.
