 I was watching dr. phil on tv (he was a constant guest in Oprah) and the topic was parenting. The first one is about a woman who adopted a child with disability. The second was about a mother of a 12-yr-old who has down syndrome and autism. I was moved by their story and thought to myself how lucky I was that I am coping up with problems that are normal. Here I am so stressed out with all the house chores and taking care of my 2-yr-old while there are some mothers who could not even get their kid understand anything and had to carry their kids even if they are too heavy.

2.  irishidid (3051) | 10 months ago |  I'm going to give you a perspective from someone who has one of those "kids".
I give thanks every day for my daughter. I accept her as she is, even with the problems. I deal each day with autism, adhd, ocd and anxiety disorder. Some days are easy, some days not but if she awoke in the morning without any of it, I would mourn my lost child.
And, yes, I consider myself extremely lucky.

However, I have a great neice who has downs and is a heart baby, and you know what? My neice (her mother) is also very lucky, as am I to have such a beautiful little girl in our world! We have never had different expectations for her, yet we know that we require more patience with her, Now she is a Happy 10 year old little girl, who is potty trained, who can speak, who can read and who is doing wonderfully in her schooling.
I think that having a child with any kind of disability teaches you more about patience, more about yourself, more to take things as they come and to relax. I think most importantly the whole experience teaches you how precious life really is. So I think there is not an unlucky person in this world when it comes to the gift of a child. However there are plenty of unlucky little children who don't get to choose who will be their parents!

| 4. Jae2619 (1135) | 9 months ago |  I don't consider myself lucky, I feel I am blessed to have two beautiful children, who for the most part are healthy. My little girl has some health issues but it's nothing close, to what these other mothers who's children are mentally handicapped, or have other disablities. I went to school for special education and have seen some of the struggles that parents face when it comes to children who have challenges, I think that's what gives me the it could be worse additude when it comes to my daily struggles with my children and life.
