why do oven toasters propose a timed setting for a toast when it always comes out burned? why can't manufacturers recommend a setting that will not burn bread and that people would be happy to eat?

Well, you could use oven toasters to adjust the level of heat you want for your bread. I already know which level to choose when I just want to heat my bread a little. When I want my bread to be extra crispy, I'd put the level to a notch above the preferred setting.

I have not figured that out yet. I no longer have a toaster oven (Yay!!!) But, sometimes my toaster does this too.
