I have been on a cane for almost a year now. I was in a major car accident and was badly hurt. I can not walk around without using my cane. I have noticed that people treat me differently since I have been on my cane. I guess that the site of a 29 year old using one is odd. Some people become over helpful. I may have limited mobility but that does not mean that I can not preform the smallest task. Then there are the people that try to act like they are not staring. Is anyone else writing here disabled as well? Tell me your story.

Hi phoenix,
I can well understand that as I use the cane when I am out, I have a sever bad back and whenever I got out people do look at me and are very helpful as I don' min that and traffic would stop for when I want to cross the road but it can be too much.

That is wild we have so much in common. My cane is blue and has chrome flames on it. That is so it looks like I am going really fast. LOL

Your cane must look great, my friend made me my cane from a hazel tree and he had carved little nature things on it like oak leafs raindrops flowers hedgehog snail bird all sorts of little things, neat.
Bright Blessings

Hi phoenix, I can imagine what you go through because I have watched my daughter
deal with the same type of things. She has had juvenile rhumitoid arthritis since
the age of two. She is now 26 and has always been looked at differently by
people. Before she had a total hip replacement she had to use crutches for along
time. She was made fun of alot when she was small because of her limp , and in high school she was treated like she was something to pity. Childhood was the worse time for her because children can be very cruel ! She has become a very
strong young woman , and she was probably made that way due to how she was treated ealier . No matter what she has to deal with she always smiles the brightest smile . I think anymore people see her, they see that bright smile more then the limp or the crutch. She has shown me that with a smile and the right outlook , you can over come many things !

That can be very painful I have the adult version of that. Because of the damage to my back the arthritis developed early. I use to think that at 24 I was too young to have it. It was until last year when I was 28 that I learned that some people develop this condition at such a young age

I had a bit of a problem with an ankle and knee, but I soon got tired of limping and Joined a Yoga class. It took quite a while but I just kept working with my problem joints and soon I could see an improvement. After several years my leg is as good as new again. Yoga is a series of slow stretching movements designed to strengthen muscles and lubricate joints.
