A bit of good news from Iraq, you probably won't ever see in the "drive by media".

By Jamie Weinstein
FrontPageMagazine.com | Wednesday, April 01, 2009

Things are looking brighter in Iraq, according to a recently released poll of Iraqis conducted at the end of February. The poll was sponsored by ABC, the BBC and Japan’s NHK.

Asked how well things were going for them in their life, 65 percent of Iraqi respondents said things were going well for them. This is compared to 55 percent of Iraqis responding in a similar manner in February 2008 and just 39 percent saying life was going well for them in August 2007.

On a personal level, Iraqis seem optimistic about their futures. Fifty-six percent of Iraqis believe that life will be better for them a year from now than it is today, while 22 percent of that 56 percent believe life will be “much” better. In a poll conducted in August 2007, only 29 percent of Iraqis believed life would be better for them in a year’s time.

Asked about security in their local village or neighborhood, 84 percent of Iraqis responded by saying the situation was good. In August 2007, only 43 percent of Iraqis responded that way. Considering that just two years ago Iraq was convulsed in what appeared like never-ending violence, this is astonishing.

Significantly, most Iraqis surveyed rejected the idea of an Islamic state and declared that they want a unified central democratic government. Sixty-four percent of those polled said they want to see a democracy established in Iraq, while only 19 percent said they wanted an Islamic state governed according to religious principles, and only 14 percent said they wanted a strongman dictator ruling the country. This support for democracy registers all across the board with over 60 percent of each major Iraqi ethnic subgroup (Kurds, Sunni Arabs and Shia Arabs) supporting a democratic political model.

Whether or not one supported the Iraq War, they should recognize the progress that has been made since 2007. And they should root for Iraqis to overcome the many remaining obstacles in their way so that they can emerge when the dust settles as a strong, stable and hopefully democratic society. This would not only be positive for Iraq, but for the United States and the region as a whole.

And, now I hear that President Obama is planning a "surge" into Afghanistan. Of course he would die before he ever called it a surge...

Personally, and it is my opinion and I know I am gonna get a lot of crap about this but I don't care how they are getting along over there! We need to get our guys the heck out of there and take care of our own country before we save the rest of the world. We have enough hungry, homeless, and medically needy here in the US we need to pay attention to our own four borders and let the rest of the world take care of their own home!!!!! We are in our own economic crisis and need to worry about us. Charity begins at home. Love me or leave me that is the way I feel. My medical benefits are cut every time I turn around because of Federal cut backs but yet we have enough money to send aide all over the world, go to the hills with that nonsenses it doesn't wash with me. I want my benefits back. I want to be able to go to the doctor without worry that I am not gonna get a bigger bill than I did the last time for the same services because benefits changed. NOT FAIR.

Well, now they are talking about rationing healthcare, with the government determining who gets medical services and how much medical they can get.

Now that's Change we can believe in... Yes We Can!

I also think we need to concentrate on our on problems, however, the Globalists think we should take care of the rest of the world, and to hell with Americans.

By the way, that includes the 0bamunbist.

I used to feel the same way Kijiky about minding our own business. Only now I understand too much about Islamic Supremacy and feel that we now have to do something to stop it. It's determined to take over the world weather we keep to ourselves or not.

We need to help the Iraqi acheive total victory otherwise we will have another Korea or Israel or Kosovo or Ziere (The Congo). That is what you get with a cease fire or a Peace Trety with out victory. The war goes on and you still have the problem. Israel has no problem with Jordan or Egypt because the war with them ended in a victory. Did any of the peace talks with Hitler acheive peace?

The 0bamunist wants to cut defense spending, while involved in two wars and possibly taking on Pakistan as well.

He talks out of both sides of his mouth and has no clue as to what he is doing.

He was against the surge in Iraq and is on record as saying that it would not work.

The fact that is did work is evidence of how clueless and unqualified that this clown really is.

It's really scary that we have such a clueless leader in these times isn't it?

The moron stream media will not cover anything positive about Iraq until it finds a way to make it look like 0bama is responsible for any success there.

That's for sure.
Just watch how they cover the war on Afghanistan now. I think it's going to be a worse, more costly war than Iraq. He has no fricking idea what he's getting us into. Yet the media will act as if he's going to be leading the battle like George Washington did. At least now hopefully our troops will get more support and respect when they come home.
Another of president Bush's tactics that I heard he's planning is burning the poppie fields and replacing them with wheat and other things they can sell for more profit. You watch the reporters will be all over this as if it was Obamas idea...
